The duck soup and pho at this restaurant are fantastic! We weren't a fan of the chicken rolls, but everything else we've sampled has been delicious.
I chose to dine at this restaurant based on the menu listed on Yelp. The website is owned by Thanh Vu.
With our little guy at a sleepover and having some shopping to get done, we stopped in at Thanh Vu for an early dinner. We arrived around 5pm to an empty restaurant and got a booth on the main floor. The restaurant itself was perfectly clean and maintained, the large wall mural added some atmosphere and even the bathrooms were clean and orderly. The menu was quite foreign to my partner and the variety of vegetarian options for me left us looking at our choices for a while. In the meantime we ordered their Vietnamese iced coffee and veg spring roll for an appetizer. The service was polite and the beverages and appy were out quickly. Both were delicious, the coffee was rich and refreshing and the spring roll was perfectly crispy and flavourful, although too hot to eat when it landed. I went for a red curry with tofu which they modified for me, deep frying the tofu first so it would have some crunch, and my partner went with a oyster sauced beef. Patrons filtered in or grabbed their pick-up orders (no delivery unfortunately) and by the time we left the eatery was getting busy. The entrees were fantastic. My red curry was textured and saucy, the vegetables not wilty and the tofu sucked up the flavour. Best bite I'd had in PG for quite a while. My partner was unsure of her dish having little experience with ethnic food, but soon found it to her liking. Both meals were plentiful and my partner had enough to take home, finishing it all later. I left my bowl empty. For dessert we had fried pineapple and ice cream, also quite tasty. We left full and satisfied and knowing we would be back. The server got a tip that we felt was deserved. Give Thanh Vu a try if you're passing through or a resident of PG, it's worth the visit.
It's very hard giving a review of Vietnamese restaurants in other cities, when you've eaten at probably the two best Vietnamese restaurants in North America (no exaggeration, "Thanh Thanh Oriental Noodle House" and the best, Doan's which are both in Edmonton, Ab). I have eaten in Vietnamese restaurants in many cities such as New York, Vancouver, Calgary etc. and none compare with those two. This place in Prince George is pretty decent though. I had a chicken/seafood brochette combo twice, once at lunch and a few days later for dinner. The chicken used on the skewer was breast meat, which was cooked just right, while the seafood skewer consisted of assorted veggies, shrimp and a white fish, both skewers served on a bed of rice noodles with fish sauce. The serving size was fair and the meal tasted very good. The price for this dish at lunch was reasonable at $12.95, but I was a little disappointed that the same dish at dinner was over $4 more. The only difference, was the addition of a spring roll with the dinner meal. While the spring roll was very tasty, it did not justify the extra $4 they charged for the same meal at dinner. Apart from that, I can honestly say (even though I haven't tried other things on their menu), that the food here seems to be quite decent for Vietnamese cuisine here in Prince George
