Smelters Restaurant - QUEENSTOWN

Dinner and breakfast, both simply enough. the staff was usually helpful, but seemed to fight. I hope that's not what they wrote down as the best eating queen instown, but I didn't land anywhere else.

I ordered battered market catch fish and chips. the reality was crooked supermarket freezer fish and chips. I can tolerate bad food while traveling, but badly described meal times are unacceptable at any price; and this place is not cheap.

In the frame of the silver hills motels this large but inconceivable restaurant was highly recommended by my hosts in penghana. a large menu, large selection and eating was fabulous. also gave me my first taste of valhalla ice cream, a peach lemon myrtle, who was heavenly.

Was promised a good meal by my friends, but we were all disappointed. The lamb shanks, which tasted like hot grease, were in insipid, commercially made gravy that had thawed out peas and a couple of bits of carrot floating in it. The tiny bit...of fake mashed potato accompanying it was almost dissolved in the liquid. Three very boring dessert options, also commercially made. Take a coat if the weather is a bit cool out, as it was freezing inside. The staff were very friendly: certainly no complaint there. Wasn't cheap, wasn't good.

Went for dinner, recommended by our hosts and we were not dissapointed. My husband had a steak and I had the garlic prawns (12) with rice, absolutely delicious. We shared a generous sticky date pudding for dessert. Wine prices were reasonable and waitress was exceptional....They have a fire lit so creates a good atmosphere especially on a cold night.
