This place is great! Excellent dating spot! Feels like home. Friendly and attentive staff. Good food selection. Must try: callos, ossobuco and salpicao!
We visited Mateo's to celebrate Father's Day and luckily when we came, we're the only customers they're serving well, we came a bit early for dinner so we have the place all to ourselves. The place is one of the old house turned restaurant and all the food they serve is Spanish inspired cuisine and the place was really preserved. The interiors gave that homey feeling. Here's what we ordered: Pumpkin Soup split into 2 since we have a baby with us. The soup was flavored with cinnamon which was gave the dish a new taste and it was REALLY GOOD. The consistency of the soup was good as well and was served really hot! Mateo's Salad served with Lolarossa (which is a cherry tomato actually), mixed greens, peaches, feta cheese and tortillas on top with raspberry vinaigrette sauce. I personally loved this dish. The combination of tastes did not disappoint. The homemade raspberry vinaigrette tasted good with all the ingridients of the salad. This one is a must try! Beef Morcon the meat was cooked till it melts in your mouth. Serving was big and can be shared by two. Beef Salpicao the beef was a bit hard to slice and chew but tasted well. The sauce was a bit bitin but still a must try when you dine here. Mango Yema Cake i love the combination of Mango and Yema with walnuts and almonds. The yema was overpowered by the taste of mango so you won't feel any umay in the end. Caramel Chocolate Cake MUST TRY! Baby loved it. Super sweet nakaka diabetes! Pricey but the service was good, food is very satisfying.
Had Sunday lunch at Mateo's. The place is a house converted into a restaurant. That being said, it's a bit dark to our liking. Servers were attentive and polite. We had the Paella Negra, Seafood Paella, Beef Morcon, Ossobuco with Safron Risotto, Blue Marlin, Lengua, Sisig, Calamari, Garden Salad, and Salpicao. The Paella tasted good but the seafood ingredients were not enough and topped only on the Paella. It should be mixed into it. The Paella comes out as expensive for it's serving size. The Ossobuco and Beef Morcon were very flavorful. The Beef Morcon should be served with rice. (They removed rice servings on some items. These 2 orders were priced a little on the above average. Calamari was cooked tender but on the salty side. Serving was small. The cakes were ok and the coffee was very good. Bread and butter should be free, not PHP70.00; especially with the pricing of the other items. Some hits and misses with Mateo's. All in all a good meal.
This restaurant is near Robinson's Place Magnolia. Nice place. Delicious food but small serving size. Food Service Ambiance Value for Money
