My wife and I had a good meal in this place last 22 December 2019. We enjoyed the sets of food and the assistance of the staff. The very oriental ambiance is great. I just want to recommend securing a better supplier of prawn for the Tempura. The batter mix taste good but the prawn has a little bland taste like it was either put into shelf for a long time or the prawn already lost the sweetness of a sea food (I always experience this in other Japanese food joints). I also cook tempura at home and the taste of the prawn or shrimp I bought in the supermarket or wet market taste always sweet and tender.
This area in Vertis is lined up with a lot of other Japanese restos. Admittedly this wasn’t the top of mind but I guess the 15% off from Citi caught our attention. Considering Vday, the service was fast. Love the second roll (bigger one, forgot the name). Good crunch on the tempura. Service is good too. Just too bad no salmon. Good find! I’ll come back for the salmon.
A fellow Zomato reviewer mentioned that the servings at Tendon Kohaku were big, so I went to find out for myself, and it's true! We ordered the Kohaku Tendon upgraded to multi-grain rice, Vegetable Tendon, and omelet with mentaiko sauce. I'd definitely recommend all of those items! The tempura batter was crunchy and not greasy, the rice was actual Japanese rice, and the omelet was very flavorful. But if you don't like fishy-tasting food, I wouldn't recommend the omelet since the mentaiko (fish eggs gives it a strong fishy umami taste. The price is also a bit steep for just eggs (P280 . The presentation of the tendon is very good. The colorful bowl it's served in makes the all-brown assorted tempura look more inviting to eat. Also, I'd recommend getting the tempura sauce on the side (the spicy sauce is super good! so that your tempura stays crunchy for longer. Service was also fast and friendly, and the store and restroom were clean. Overall, a good experience!
We got to try Tendon Kohaku as we were looking for a new place to dine at. First of all, the food here is mostly fried (except for their udons) BUT it doesn't feel oily. The outside is really crisp and the inside is flavorful. The rice was a really good compliment for the fried dishes but for the miso soup, I would prefer it to have tofu in it (for a different texture) rather than the bread like thing in the soup. Service was also good, keep it up! Will come back
