We decided to have Indian (take away) - and usually go to Nirala (previously Charminar). We haven't been there in a while. We ordered as usual when we arrived and told it would be about 20 minutes,so we sat and waited. I noticed that the floors hadn't been mopped or the carpets vacuumed. The restaurant opener at 4:30pm and we were there at 5:30, so highly doubt there would have been much traffic through. There were also some 'sticky' marks on the tiles. We ordered: butter chicken, prawn malabar, large rice, 2x papadams and a cheese / garlic naan. $42We noticed that the butter chicken was very runny - almost as though they had watered it down to make it go further. The prawn malabar was far from prawns. Usually we've always had to remove the shell from the tail. This was already done. When biting into the prawns, they felt very soft and just not a prawn texture. Upon further inspection, it appeared to be seafood extender pressed into the shape of a prawn! Every prawn was the same size and had same markings etc. I could not believe it. Especially seeing as this dish costs $16.50. Turned us off the meal completely. Such a shame, as we usually enjoyed getting food from here. I don't think we'll be going back again. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants in the southern suburbs, so perhaps check out some others first.
Excellent food, great choice of drinks...service good...very friendly staff...will be visiting as often as possible
We went to Chaminar Reynella for dinner on a Sunday and arrived just before 6 pm..We went to the counter and asked if there was an available table. An unsmiling man said with a wave of the arm “you can sit somewhere over there”! So finding our own table he then brought us the menus, put them on the table and without a word left again. His entire attitude was unfriendly and unwelcoming. There were just 3 other tables occupied when we arrived. When we walked in, one group arrived just before us, another two groups after us.We looked at the menus, decided what we wanted to order and then waited and waited.. In the meantime, no one came and asked if we would like to order drinks or offer water.Behind the counter was another man standing doing nothing with his arms crossed, the unsmiling man was on the phone.. it seemed to have been a private call as I saw him being given the “cut it” sign by the man with his arms crossed. There was just one waitress taking orders, she didn’t seem to know in what order customers had arrived, she took the orders from the 2 groups who had arrived after us!After 25 minutes of not being served and guessing that the meals would take a whole lot longer to come out we left. Told the waiter, that it was taking too long, he care. This place needs to realise that customer service and a friendly welcome goes a long way.Won’t be going back.
This was a great find! The curry plate sampled 4 dishes (popular ones) and as I'm not the most adventurous curry picker, this was perfect.
