We we seated outside under the trees, overlooking the river Loire. After a day of visiting castles...the setting was perfect. The restaurant is simple excellent, but not perfect. The waiters are not so very organized and it takes long between the different courses. We were seated and it took ages for them to bring out the water and the bread. The dishes were fantastic. The plates are made up in a beautiful fashion. I guess that's why it takes ages between the courses. As we were under the trees, some leaves and other stuff had fallen on your table, while cleaning I dropped my fork. When asking the waiter for a new one, he took my fork away....but never came back with a new one. Again....not very organized. The waiters seem to be everywhere and nowhere. It would make sense if the waiters had a dedicated table(s). Would I go back....for the food and the setting yes. For the service, no.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Les Hautes Roches. The location is stunning, specially on the terrace facing the Loire. The staff were very helpful and professional. As we had opted for a tasting menu with wine pairing, the sommelier asked us what our preferences...were and prepared a nice selection among the wines that they are serving by the glass. The food was very fresh and tasty. The dishes were rather classical but perfectly adapted to the local produce. The aperitif was a local sparkling Crémant de Loire (AOP Vouvray). It was of good quality, aromatic and with yeasty notes. The finish was shorter than for a good Champagne but we enjoyed this product. We had asparagus with braised pork and a poached quail egg for starter. It was served with a very good dry Ménetou-Salon. The first entrée was an excellent Saint-Pierre filet with chorizo, served with a dry Vouvray. The second entrée was pigeon. Everything was excellent on this plate but it was a little bit too crowded. Too much was going on in the plate to be able to really enjoy all the elements. The wine was great, a Bourgueil from domaine de la chevalerie. The dessert was very well done. A Grand Marnier soufflé with a madeleine and strawberries. We chose for their only sweet wine proposed by the glass, a good Vouvray from with surprising nutty flavors. I warmly recommend this place for a special dinner along the Loire river in a stunning environment.
We ate on the terrace with views to Loire river (I should have checked this in advance as our clothing wasn't fit to this and it did get a bit chilly in the evening but as everyone else was sitting outside was well, we didn't...want to be the only ones inside). The place emits old charm, maybe build in and not renovated after that, it sounds worse that it actually was. The place is very clean and tidy, but that's just the fact. With darkening nights it's actually very romantic (as long as you have enough cloths on)! We ordered the menu, they let us exchange Foie Gras to another dish (as we are not big fans of that) with no extra cost (even when the replacement was a bit more expensive). Started was lobster bits with bacon on top, and misc vegetables and flowers. This might have been the most beautiful dish I have ever seen, art! Other dishes were good but not as great as the starter. Wine list was over the top, there were all kinds of wine you could think of, and even multiple vintages of each! Waiters were friendly, but it was very hard to get them, we would have wanted to have more wine and water but we couldn't get hold of them. This is like restaurants should be like (not like the one we visited in Angers was like)!
On our way to Le Mans from Troyes we stopped there for lunch This was a great summer day and this place was beautiful, romantic with a great view on the Loire river. This is in the heart of Vouvray great Loire wine region. The...appetizer with langoustine tails and Landes white asparagus were great, the langoustine tails cooked just slightly and wonderfully tender, the asparagus tender as well and I am an aficionado when they are in season. The St Pierre was perfectly prepared and the turbot pleased my wife. The Chef's dessert with strawberry tart and raspberries sorbet was outstanding. I especially liked the tart bottom with almond paste was amazing. We loved his use of fresh ingredients and vegetables we could recognize and enjoy This chef offers very good food that is excellent as it is humble in opposite to the ego driven chef that create some Dali rendering in your plate that leaves you hungry. This is the restaurant that I can patronize over and over without getting tired of that type of food and cooking. My chef is a master chef of france as he is and this is what I am most familiar with, great ingredients, beautiful presentation and a satisfying meal Thank you
We visited this restaurant after finishing lunch at La Roche Le Roy at Nice cool structure and entrance, welcoming staff and good wine selection. We tried the squid, pigeon and prawns/langoustine and soufflé. Overall, the squid was the best. The other dishes were very...good but not much of the wow factor. On this vacation, we ate at Michelin restaurants in Tours and Paris. Between the above restaurants in Tours, we still prefer La Roche.
