Contribuisci feedbackIn my previous reviews, I typically refrain from giving negative feedback in order to support local independent businesses. However, I feel compelled to address my recent experience at this restaurant. During a visit on a bank holiday in August, I found the manageress to be impatient and unwelcoming, despite our group consisting of both adults and children. Despite using the family annex area, we were met with a cold reception. Upon returning for a pre-meal drink with my family before meeting with friends, we were initially served by a friendly barmaid. However, the manageress quickly intervened and informed us that children were not allowed in the bar, citing supposed legal reasons. As a lawyer and bar owner myself, I disagreed with this policy, but we finished our drinks and left, deciding not to return. Clear signage regarding children's admittance to the bar could have avoided this unpleasant experience. A young child in our group even remarked on the manageress's rudeness, shedding further light on the situation.
Called in today on the way to Scarborough hoping they could find room for us for the carvery. They found us a table and we had an excellent carvery. We had all 4 meats between the two of us and they were all great as...were the veggies and Yorkshire pudding on its own plate! Very friendly, very helpful and good food.
Me and my family visited her this morning, we are local and had never been before so decided to give it a go. We went to let the children have a play in the playground before we went in for something to eat. There was...a Large wooden Fort with a large slide which my son was playing on, and he wanted his dad to go up and have a look and go down the slide. Now my husband is in no way a large man, and as he was coming down the slide, a man out of nowhere appeared shouting at us saying would you pay for that if you broke it, no you wouldn't, your sort don't, you'd just walk away I asked him what he meant by our sort, but all we got was a barrage of abuse. This was totally unacceptable in front of my children. We then said we were going to go in and have lunch but wouldn't bother beacuse of his behaviour, and he said good, you should just go. Had we been behaving like louts I would have understood. But to speak to us like that was totally out of order. So I can't comment on food, as we didn't get that far! What made things worse was this man was the owner of the place. Needless to say I will in no way reccommend or visit this asstablishment again.
Called in here a couple of times and what a gem of a place this is. The landlord and staff very welcoming and the food was great. I can highly recommend the battered haddock, the batter was one of the best I have had, crispy...to the end. My husband could not fault his meal of the lamb shank on a bed of creamy mash. Another bonus is that it is very dog friendly too so our best mate can join us. Will definitely keep returning.
My grandmother and I visited this restaurant and tried their Sunday carvery. My grandmother enjoyed the meat options while I, being a vegetarian, was able to choose from a vegetarian meal or a plate with vegetarian options from the carvery. We both loved the desserts and the coffee was excellent. The restaurant also has a charming Victorian style arcade with local products, antiques, and unique shops. After our meal, we explored the arcade and purchased some delicious fresh bread and cake from the bakery. Overall, we had a great experience and would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.
