The place was full and very loud, so loud that my wife and I couldn't even talk. There was only one waiter who tried to take care of the whole place, the service was slow... what service was there. I ordered the crab linguin and ended up with what I think maybe was pork. I walked a head and ate a little and didn't complain because I just wanted to get out of the place.
I went with a party of 8 and for most night we were the only ones in the restaurant, so service was no problem. Portions are not huge, so some of us wished there were 2 or 3 more bites on our plates. My sister got the pan roasted sea bass and it was perfectly cooked. It is also worth the pappardelle with super delicate lamb and the creamy gnocchi with sausage. A record that was not a big hit was the ink splashed pasta. Although the shrimps were good, the pasta was something on the hard side.
We had spent a nice evening in Vicoletto. There was a group of eight women who all came to San Francisco to celebrate a 21st birthday. The restaurant was very accommodating for such a large group and the food was spectacular. $20 cork fee is also a big hall in San Francisco. The waiter brought out two delicious desserts to celebrate the birthday child. We are pleased to have stumbled on this jewel in North Beach.
I was here about 4 or 5 times. The homemade pasta is always a pleasure.
We planned a day in SF and wanted to eat in North Beach. I made a reservation for Sunday. The first reservation was canceled by the restaurant late the night before. I was able to reschedule for a similar time , but when we got to the restaurant we realized it was closed and wouldn't be open that day. Not sure why. I would have appreciated a note with the cancellation saying that they were closed for whatever reason.
