Food is always good. We love being served during a movie. Seats are comfortable and recline. Always one of my favorite places to go
The arcade games are a bit frustrating. Some of them work and the ones that do not work take your credits away. Then, you need to go to the front desk and ask for a refund, which is a pain since you need to wait for the manager and sometimes takes longer than expected. Bowling it’s good and food is great.
Since the Starplex closed down, this leaves this to be the only movie theater left in San Marcos. I hope somebody else builds a movie theater here down the road, because the capacity is simply not built to withstand San Marcos (most movies sell out rapidly fast due to most auditoriums capacity being about 30-50 seats). More than likely, if you didn't buy tickets well in advance, you're stuck in the front row or buying tickets in New Braunfels or Austin. I'm not using this for the low rating, however. Instead, EVO should be embarrassed as a chain for removing the blue buttons for service in this theater in favor of a QR code you scan on your phone to order food and drinks during the film. I get having somebody walk in front of you and potentially take a guest's order next to you is distracting in itself, but essentially encouraging guests to use their phones during the movie is just as bad, if not, worse. For the screening of The Little Mermaid I went to, the video was fine but the audio was very quiet. A majority of the bathrooms were clogged and absolutely disgusting. The theater is also home to a very small arcade that is admittedly not well maintained. There's an outdoor patio with no working games and broken TVs and chairs. Bowling is available though I cannot review that as I have not done it here (compared to the other bowling alley in town though, it's insanely expensive). The upsetting part is that this theater has so much potential, especially given it being the only one left in town. But instead, it decides to rot until another theater inevitably takes its place down the road.
Yesterday, we took our granddaughters to see a movie, and I noticed that the blue buttons for ordering were gone, which meant everyone was either glued to their phones or leaving their seats to get food, drinks, or refills throughout the entire film. I wanted to use a $10 reward for popcorn and drinks, but I had to order from the bar. Three staff members seemed confused about how to process the rewards, so they had to get a manager involved. I placed my order and an hour into the movie, I returned to the bar to collect my popcorn and drinks, showing my receipt as proof of my order. On the plus side, I still appreciate the reserved seating and recliners, but I won’t be ordering food or drinks again.
