Staff were lovely and very helpful. My main grouse is New Years Eve. We didn't want a buffet as we were going out for lunch and didn't want a disco (too loud for the dogs) and also didn't want to pay the ticket price of £25 for nothing . We were not informed that a party had been arranged as we booked in September and at that time you said nothing had been arranged but you said you would let us know if you had made NYE arrangements. I asked if we could buy a drink and then take it to the snug. I was told no. However after staff speaking to the manager we were told that if we paid £8 each for a ticket we could buy a drink and take it back to the snug. I was appalled. We were guests there for 3 night. Rooms: Good size Walkability: Easy walk into the village
We went for a festive afternoon tea and it was delicious. With the traditional sandwiches, festive prawn cocktail and turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce, delicious scone with jam and clotted cream and some other sweet treats were the bonus of roast potatoes and pigs in blankets with the tastiest gravy. Topped off with a glass of mulled wine, it made for a lovely afternoon treat. We even took some bits home with us; definitely worth the money!
We stayed for two nights whilst attending a wedding and had a lovely stay at this hotel. There was plenty of car parking close to the hotel entrance. We were checked in quickly and greeted by very friendly hotel staff. Our room was cosy and very warm (maybe the heating has been turned up since previous reviews said it was cold) and we had lots of hot water whenever we needed it. The room was very clean with plenty of storage space, a lovely tea tray with biscuits etc, chocolates on the pillows, and a dressing table with good size mirror. We did hear noise from other rooms, but were aware this might occur from other reviews and took ear plugs with us, and didnt hear anything past 10.30. We ate in the restaurant on the 1st night (both the bar menu, special offers and a la carte menu are available in here). They have lots of offers on and we had 2 burgers for £20 really good value for money. Drinks in the bar were a good price too. The bar had a lovely fire and was a nice cosy place to have dessert. Breakfast was continental with cooked options for £10pp. The food was great and lots of choices. The hotel is within walking distance of the local village, and local walks in the National park. Food drinks: Great value for money, plenty of choice and good quality
I booked table for 4 on 27th November for 16th December arrived to be told we had to pre book the Xmas 2 or 3 course menu I felt i should have been asked when I booked the table we had the burgers which wasn't very seasonal but delicious it was very cold in restaurant we wer the only people in most of the night we move into the lounge ordered coffee to warm up then the fire was switched off with the pumps on bar so we felt it was time to go it was only 20-30pm the 2staff were friendly polite but we all felt our evening which we had been looking forward to was spoilt with no Xmas meal it being so cold we are all local people but won't be rushing back.
This is a very beautiful old building. The car park is a little tricky with the very tight walls in between the two car parks that it has how large vehicles get through without scraping the walls I don 't know. I didn 't like that very much, I found the young lady serving on the evening of a party I was invited too, quite abrupt. I only take cash out with me. Once I 'd ordered our two drinks, I was told she can 't take cash.. it was card only. No explanation just Kept asking if I had a card. Three times I told her I didn 't.. so the drinks stayed there for a few minutes until some someone in the queue that had formed suggested a tab Apparently, I later on heard she had no float in the till.. now 7.45 you 'd think a place like that would be prepared for customers. I found it quite cold too. I kept my coat on all night as the heating wasn 't on..
