Four friends met us in Sayulita near the plaza. We walked down the most photographed street in Mexico, known locally as Calle de Selfie. The best place for lunch along this street is Ruben’s Deli. It’s a great location for people watching, with people posing...for their photos with banners, palm trees, and the ocean in the background. Although the atmosphere’s colorful, we came to Ruben’s for the food. Ruben, his wife Monica, and son Ruben Jr make great sandwiches. They use good toasted bread. The turkey is roasted and sliced, and the pastrami and corned beef is better than that served in most delis north of the border. Along with sandwiches and fish and chips, Ruben’s also offers a few Asian style dishes like an Asian chicken salad. The chicken is grilled and sliced and the salad comes with real won ton chips. Ruben’s offers table service, with English spoken, and a reasonable price. Ruben and his family support many local civic causes, giving generously of their time and good food. Show the love and enjoy lunch at Ruben’s Deli!
We specifically drove to Sayulita to have a Ruben sandwich at Ruben. Our friends ran over it. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table that was perfect as there was a little time to take care of all the drinks... and various wars in this lively tourist city We all have ordered the same. While the taste of ruby was really appealing, the pastrami on my sandwich was a little barley. The frits were tastefully seasoned and seasoned. My biggest problem of doing nothing with the restaurant was the BLARING electronic music at the corner. It was hard to talk to each other. I didn't expect it to taste like a US NY deli Ruben and it didn't, but it wasn't bad. I'm not sure I'm going back there with all the other decisions.
My wife and I have been visiting Sayulita for years. We always make it a point to swing from Rubens to get a take-out sandwich before you go to the beach. Unless you're really a big eater, a sandwich and a side salad that comes with it is more than enough to fill you enough so you don't hunger at dinner, but hungry enough to really enjoy your next meal. You always do a stellar job. Quality, freshness and taste excellent.
It is what it is and does not pretend to be something other than a small open sandwich shop. Would go back.
