The food was superb. We enjoyed four appetizers and three entrees. All were excellent. Desert was unique and very tasty Service was excellent.
I first visited MKT in 2016 and had a phenomenal experience- from the food, it the service, everything was top notch. So, when we were looking for a restaurant to celebrate my birthday, I was excited to go back. Unfortunately, the experience the second time around was seriously disappointing. Food- the food was mostly good! The green beans were the star of the show. My husband had the Lamb and unfortunately it lacked flavor and was over cooked. I had the gluten free Campanella, which was awesome. However, I ordered it with the soft egg and it was forgotten. After it was brought to the table separately, I proceeded to cut into it and it was almost hard boiled, not to mention it was cold. Big bummer. Our friends had the duck and scallops and were really pleased with their dishes. Service- the service is what will keep me from returning. It was awful. There was one server for the restaurant , which wasn’t an issue. However, from the moment we walked in and gave our reservation name the server acted as though we were an inconvenience and just seemed irritated. As we ordered and asked questions, we were met with snide looks and snappy remarks. The service was pretty slow, but we were okay with that. Unfortunately as we did get our food and drinks, not once were we asked how things were. On top on it all, the server was wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, presenting in a very sloppy and unprofessional manner that didn’t match the restaurants vibe. Atmosphere- loved! It is small and intimate. Great open kitchen. Overall, the service really was the downfall and would prevent us from returning. Such a bummer!
Good food let down by the rest of the restaurant. Bill was $350 for 3 people. (2 adults and 1 kid). Cons: Skip the Shania Twain and Kylie minogue playlist? Music was awful all night and didn 't match the surroundings or food. Service wasn 't welcoming. Asked the server how their night was going when we entered the restaurant and they said Fine. *Pause* I 'm here. Also they were dressed really sloppy in a slouchy hoody. Again... didn 't really match the food or prices. Scallops were great, but didn 't enjoy the beet sauce. I get it it looks striking, but didn 't compliment the scallops at all and I actually like cooking/eating beet components for meals. Pros: Gnocchi alla Romana was fantastic. Overall there are way stronger Italian choices in Seattle at this price point so I don 't think we 'll be back.
Excellent salad and dessert. Unfortunately, surprisingly bad scallops (undercooked in a huge pool of beet sauce) and shockingly overcooked lamb such that it was hard to tell the difference between the bone and the meat as they were both so hard. UPDATE 11/8 Mark was really kind in our conversation and explained some challenges they were experiencing in their kitchen the evening we visited as it was day 1 of Restaurant Week. I look forward to giving it another shot in the next month or so.
