Delicious food. The main dishes can easily feed two people. They don’t seem to serve dumplings anymore. Theres limited seating and it’s usually busy so be prepared to wait.
I love Georgian food, and since there aren’t many options in this direction in Seattle, I gave Skalka a try. The negative: the khachapuri they make are not authentic in their flavours (the cheese, the bread itself are very different from what I’m used to based on food in Georgia itself and Georgian restaurants in other countries). Soif you are craving an adjaruli khachapuri you may be disappointed. The positive: While they don’t taste the way they would in traditional Georgian restaurants, they are very good creations influenced by khachapuri, but also pizza. This is the first I was able to have a pizza/khachapuri creation that had the traditional adjaruli ingredients on one side (cheese, egg, butter) and a different dish on the other (stroganoff witj pickles in this case). The bread could use a little more salt and tastes too much like normal bread compared to what you’d expect, but it’s warm and fresh with a good crust, so what’s not to like. The temperature should be a little hotter, the taste of the cheese should be a little more sour (I know other restaurants mix in feta if they can’t get their hands in good suluguni cheese). In a word, it’s not for tourists or people nostalgic about Georgian food, but it’s a nice somewhat different breakfast or lunch option.Vegetarian options: The base ingredients of their khachapuri are vegetarian, but most of their creations add meat. Since they are called “chicken” or “stroganoff” it’s easy to identify which dishes contain menu.Their online menu has more options, but when I was there during the morning, they had a total of like five dishes in total on offer.
Kiosk self ordering disappointed the stroganoff was not an option. Food is fantastic and sizeable portions to fill you up!
If you’re looking for some good Georgian food. Then this is a great place for you. While they’re menu is small. They make it up with theirs big taste in their food. Pro tip is to get there early. They make everything fresh so it can be a wait. Well worth it.
