My mom particularly loved this dish, and we appreciated that it, like all the other dishes, was seasoned just right—perfectly salted without being overwhelming. We also tried the Yunnan ham niang dou fu in special broth, another signature dish here. You could clearly taste that the Yong tau Foo was prepared in traditional Hakka style, not the mass-produced version. One of the standout dishes was the minced pork patties with salted fish and water chestnuts, which had slightly charred edges. When we cut into them, the color was even throughout—no pink centers that are often found elsewhere. They had a nice crispness and a delightful umami flavor that was superb without being too salty. It was truly the best pork patty I've had. We also enjoyed the bitter melon with minced pork and crispy olive leaves, which was excellent as well, and again, not overly salty. For dessert, we had golden custard Tang yuan in ginger soup, which had a pleasantly spicy and not overly sweet broth. I also tried something new: salted egg yolk pumpkin ice cream served over pandan glutinous rice. Everything was perfectly spiced and salted, unlike most places that tend to be excessive. My parents loved this restaurant, and we will definitely be back. It deserves six stars! The service was excellent too; our server kindly asked if it was alright to seat another party at the table next to us.
15 of us celebrated our 50th birthdays at XiYan last Saturday. The manager, Louis did a fantastic job in hosting us to the private party. The food was over the top, ambience was cosy and the service, impeccable... the joy, priceless! A must go-to for celebrations and good food.
Jacky Yu is an incredibly creative and talented chef. I had the pleasure of attending a food tasting at Xu Yan yesterday, where nine new dishes were introduced in preparation for the anniversary celebration this October. Each dish was beautifully crafted, providing a delightful experience for the palate. I can't wait for these dishes to officially launch, as I'm eager to bring my family to enjoy them!
Was at the Shaw centre Xi Yan a few days ago. This is a hidden gem in Orchard Vicinity, restaurant was tucked in a far end corner of the newly renovated Shaw Centre. We love this super yummy Salivating Chicken in spicy sauce, it is a must try ! Other yummy dishes we like , are the braise pork in preserve vegetable, shredded chicken in peanut sauce, and the fried rice !
