Old school restaurant for chicken rice in singapore, since 1940. Serve only boiled chicken and roast pork, taste good all around.
This restaurant offers a nostalgic take on classic chicken rice that will transport you back over 20 years. The chicken is deliciously moist, though the rice could use a bit more fragrance. Their thick black sauce combined with the chili pairs perfectly with the chicken rice. While there are certainly better chicken rice options out there, this spot is definitely worth a visit.
It has been quite a while since I visited this stall. Their chicken rice is certainly an acquired taste. Personally, it holds a special place in my heart, reminiscent of the Hainanese chicken rice enjoyed at home. The rice is fragrant, and while the chicken might not be the most tender, it still has a real chicken flavor. Some may find that hard to believe, especially given how some chicken can end up tasting bland and waterlogged. The roasted pork is consistently crispy, though it could use a bit more moisture. I do think the chili could use some improvement as well. A heads up: they no longer serve individual dishes, so no more pork chops! However, you can still opt for a traditional steamboat if you're looking for extra options. As the saying goes, food is often connected to the heart. So if you're up for a taste of old-school chicken rice, it's worth a visit. For those looking for something better, there are certainly other chicken rice options available.
