Osteria Umbra - Smithtown

The place is utterly gorgeous. It is completely upscale and pretentious in the best way, which allows me to give 2 stars. The service from the wait staff is impeccable as well. The food is a whole other story. Many of the options that we ordered were way too heavily doused with Black pepper, and everything is as overpriced as could be. My wife's wine was sour, and the sommelier made a face when getting her another bottle. Don't allow the customer to taste if you don't want the opinion. After sinking 500 bucks into a dinner that wasn't worth it, we decided not to return. Perhaps your experience will be different, though I'm well versed in high-end cuisine, and Osteria Umbra is all about the flash and not about the flavor.

Was a nice place food was good.Very expensive . When you serve occobucco it should be on a bed of risotto, not mashed potato. The only veg was spinach. An Italian place no broccoli Raabe. It was a birthday They put the candle in my dessert because he did not order dessert. Really when you spend over 300$ you cant put icecream on a plate with a candle. Yes it is a nice resturaunt but you miss it on the small things. Go to the North end in Boston,then you we see the difference

We tried somewhere new for our anniversary dinner and I can’t say enough amazing things about this establishment! Our server John was awesome friendly and just the best! We chose to do the tasting menu… every item on this menu was amazing.. we opted to do the wine tasting as well with the wines that were suggested with each course also 10/10. Amanda the captain of the room was absolutely the most down to earth genuine person. She was friendly thoughtful and so helpful. Ross also helped with our experience he was so great and such a hard worker and Carlos really went above and beyond to make sure that we loved the wines that were paired with each course. We felt as if we were all friends and it was so fun. I would 10000% recommend this place for one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had and I’ve worked in a restaurant for over a decade and I’ve been to my fair share of fine dining. This was one of the best. Thank you Osteria Umbra staff for making this anniversary a memorable one! We will be back!

Excellent food!! My daughter enjoyed it first and she was not wrong!!
