We were the only diners, apart from a large coach party of pensioners. There had been a self serve carvery set up for them, which gave the impression of a budget meal option. We were seated at the edge of the room and felt like intruders. The menu choice was not very extensive and there was no set menu option. The scallop starter was 3 scallops for just under £10. The veggie risotto was over cooked and stodgy i suspect it was from the freezer. My plaice was meant to be pan fried but it was under cooked and showed no signs of any taste that pan frying would have given. The skin would not separate from the flesh as it had not been cooked enough and was soggy. The waitress made a complete mesh of filleting it for me i ended up with a untidy and unappealing pile of fish which i couldn't eat as i couldn't separate the skin. The fish was cold by the time i ate it. The sauce served with the fish was disgusting. For a four star hotel this was all unacceptable. We should have had a bar meal those looked much more appealing and there was a wide range. (The bar served great cocktails too.)We were staying over at the hotel whilst visiting family so eating in seemed the best choice but, whilst we would stay at the hotel again, we would not contemplate eating in this restaurant again.
Sadly this is one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever encountered, the waitress had no knowledge, the food was very poor, the wine was ok, the coffee disgusting, we won't be eating here again. We have dined here in the past and had a good experience, it has obviously gone down hill.
Friendly and helpful service. Food mediocre but happy to go back.
Limited menu Food took 45mins to arrive . Medium/rare steak was cooked more than medium steak Cheeseboard very ordinary would not recommend
