When we found the Mad Hatter, we knew our prayers had been answered. Cute, cozey tea room with canal-side area that can cope with all but the worst weather. There are even wasp traps so the stingers leave the customers in peace. The menu is adaptable to any diet and the Staff could not be nicer or more helpful. Given that the food is prepared to order and REALLY great, what more can you want? Car parking? Not a problem !
I had a chip butty. My son had chips and egg. Both really enjoyed it and clean plates all round. Friendly staff too
Ordered a breakfast and to be fair was told that the microwave had failed so no scrambled egg, baked beans, tomatoes or mushrooms were available. We went ahead and ordered fried stuff to make up a breakfast. We twice reminded staff that we had not received our hot drinks but they didn 't appear. After 55 minutes from the order time I asked for a refund for the drinks. On the way out I spoke to the owner who was outside chatting to customers and having a cigarette and told her about the situation and she immediately blamed the new staff . It was a poor excuse, a shame because we are regular customers and did like going there
From the moment we arrived at the restaurant, we felt like we were on vacation! The outdoor seating area had beautiful straw roof huts for shade, as well as other areas where we could watch canal boats drifting by and various waterfowl enjoying the sunshine. We were seated near the canal and enjoyed watching three boats and some geese passing by. When we entered the tea room, we were greeted by a very friendly woman named Sue (apologies if I got her name wrong). She was warm and inviting, and happily let us choose our own cups for our large hot chocolates. She took the time to explain the different cakes on display, and we had a hard time deciding what to choose because there were so many options. The portions were generous and reasonably priced. Sue brought out our drinks and cakes with a smile, and we enjoyed watching how cheerful she was with all the other customers. She made us feel right at home. I would highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, beautiful views, and delicious cakes. Definitely deserving of 5 stars!
First visit for coffee and cake. Definitely will return for a breakfast seeing the plates coming out of the kitchen. Only thing that did do my head in is all the clocks at different times. But it adds to ambiance of the Alice in Wonderland theme. Well done
