It was oily and well done. I asked for blue. The service was friendly, but after...the waitress asked to take our order every two minutes for a while, we then suddenly didn't see her for ages. Our second round of drinks were warming up on the edge of the bar for a long time before they brought it over a split second before I would have walked over to get it myself. We also got the wrong drinks order.
I was actually staying at the hotel (Rydges) at the moment and when I saw that it was supposed to have the “best steaks on the Goldfields” I was excited. When I saw that the price was $55 I was less so. I thought that...a good steak cooked well would be ok but my 400 gram ribeye medium rare was rare at best and an ordinary cut in my opinion. My friend went for a scotch fillet and he said he was “under-whelmed”, basically a poor steak badly cooked. Our other mate had a lamb shank which he enjoyed but it was still overpriced.
Pros friendly helpful staff cons $18 cocktails (whiskey old fashioned and an espresso martini) took 15 minutes with the restaurant at less than 50% capacity. old fashioned was just whiskey and sugar syrup with a piece of orange peel. share platter...entree was a disgrace. the pork belly was over cooked and appeared to have been deep fried, the buffalo wings were overcooked and unseasoned, scallops were little balls rubbery and tasteless and the presentation was poor
Consensus at our table of five was food was average but way overpriced. $55 for what the menu called Fillet Mignon (a chunk of fillet steak, no bacon wrapping) is outrageous for most travellers. Service was good, but food quality average.
Garlic bread was oily. Pork was dry and no crispy skin. Pizza tasted like it had old dough and there was nothing special about it. Super pit dessert had over cooked honeycomb, chocolate wasnt tempered and no gold dust.
