I have been going to Azar since I was a child, as I grew up just a few blocks down the street. The gyro here is the best I have ever had. Even though I now live in Seattle, I still miss the gyro wraps at Azar. Every time I come to Spokane, I make sure to stop by for the buffet and satisfy my cravings. The homemade hummus is some of the best I have ever tasted in the US. Despite the fact that Azar has been around longer than I have, I am always happy to bring my children there so they can enjoy authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine as well.
The lunch buffet was excellent, particularly for the chicken and feta dishes, although the coffee wasn't as impressive. Despite this, there is something special about the food at Azar's. It may become my new favorite lunch spot, competing with Indian buffets. The fresh and comforting food, even if it includes iceberg lettuce, reminds me of the food I had in Greece, where Greek salad had no lettuce and the dressing was simple yet delicious. I especially enjoyed the Lentil Soup. The decor may be outdated, but it adds to the cozy and homey atmosphere of the restaurant. Ultimately, what matters most is that you leave feeling satisfied and happy. The buffet and a small coffee will cost you $17 with tax, although the website lists the lunch buffet at $9.95 – I was told that updates are on the way.
Gyros. They made some great gyros this Hoopfest weekend. I ate there both days.
The Best. One of the best places in town. If you say anything negative you are a hater who doesn't support local business.
