Bloofin Sushi - Spring

Fabulous waiter. One of the best I’ve ever had. Anywhere.

My husband reserved an omakase (in the hands of the chef) birthday dinner for me, but as it was midweek, the usual weekend fish selections were not available. To my surprise, a special customized dinner menu was presented at our table. Photo submitted zooms in on the items but my name and occasion was also printed on the menu—nice. We could not pick a favorite. The amaebi (sweet shrimp sashimi served with the fried shells/heads) was a treat; o-toro and chi-toro yummy and Japanese uni succulent. Our server, Johan, guided us through with expertise. Oh, and the Slow Cook Wagyu Skewers were melt in your mouth. If you want a truly special dining experience, we would definitely recommend Bloofin.

The fried rice was so bad and the Chilean Sea Bass was mediocre

Service was cheerful but slow. Food was average to good calamari was very good. Noise level made it difficult to talk to guests at our own table. We ordered the Lion Fish. It tasted bitter. Server said it sometimes happens because of the butane used to sear the salmon. That wasn't comforting. Doubtful we will be back.

We were visiting Tomball and Bloofin came up as one of a handful of dinner choices on Open Table. Being Asian Americans, and from California, we have pretty high standards for authentic Asian food, especially Japanese. I'll be honest, even with high reviews, I was skeptical being we were in a small Texas town. Needless to say, we were very happy with everything we ordered which included a Bloofin special sushi and sashimi combo, a yellowtail sashimi dish, and squid sansai. The seafood fried rice was really good and the sashimi was quite fresh and tasty, too! Interestingly, they had a unique and authentic dish I have never seen in Japanese American restaurants, before. Service was great and we were well taken care of by our server Jose! The owner even stopped by to check on us and we briefly spoke, on the way out. The space is decorated in mostly a contemporary flair with a touch of a few asian design cues in a very open space. Overall, a very pleasant and satisfying dining experience! We will definitely come back when visiting Tomball, again!
