You can taste the love and attention that they put in preparation. The restuarant is welcoming with itsphotos of actual family members and other historical figures. I did not partake of the bar but it appeared to be fully stockedwith quality spirits. Great place for a first date or Family outing. They employ the contactless menus but paper menus areavailable upon request.
Great food! Had a not so impressive experience previously but glad I took another chance to try out this restaurant. Attended a small holiday dinner for the Northern Virginia NPHC (Divine 9) chapter. Had the fried pork chops with mac and cheese and greenbeans (vegetable of the day) as my sides. Was not too ashamed to drop the fork and eat the meat off the bone. That's how youknow it's good! I saw others trying the grilled pork chops and the chicken wings dinner which all looked delicious. I snuck somegreens from another plate to taste and it was delicious as well. Will be back to try the desserts. Oh and the rum punch was anice compliment while waiting for my food.
I ordered the catfish and grits, only one small piece of catfish and enough grits to feed 3 people. My friend ordered the whiting and they had two pieces.I'm assuming they giving bowl of grits to make up for that one small piece of catfish.I want to support this place because I believe it's black owned.
Food is SO good. The standout for me was the banana pudding. It was thick, and had nilla wafers throughout that were still crunchy. The portion size was impressive and the flavors were on point.
I 've dined here a few times and feel remiss if I do not take the time to write a review. Each time, the service is fast and courteous. The atmosphere is casual and I have been consistently greeted with a smile at the door. Once seated, within seconds, I 've been greeted by a server, the last time it was Michele (who was very enthusiastic and attentive), with a smile, and a warm, friendly, hello. The menu is vast, which is great for larger parties because there is literally something for everyone. Now, on to the food! The common theme for Della J 's is comfort food with some interesting updates for modern palates. I 've tried several of the items on the menu and they did not disappoint. The bang bang cauliflower appetizer is a home run! The fried green tomatoes are also a hit and most appetizers are shareable. I recently had a shrimp and oyster Po boy and when I tell you that I looked at it and said oh my, it 's too big I 'll never finish that, but it was so good. I devoured it in one sitting! Their salmon is always cooked and seasoned to perfection and my husband, who is a rib connoisseur, says that they are among the best he 's had in the area. Others in my party have had the fried fish, chicken, etc. and the food did not disappoint. I 'll put Della jays on my list as it go to for great food, service, and as an option for small gatherings, such as a birthday celebration.
