It is mainly language barrier. We spent the best time in Asia so far thanks to Thone and his family. It was his brother's birthday and they invited us and treated us like we were family. The place is quiet and you can rent bicycles. And the food is really good and cheap. Thone, my friend, if you read this, thank you again for everything ! To you and your family. I hope we will meet again and sing together one more time ! :
The owner is very rude. He does not use manners, smile or care in the slightest about hospitality or making his guests feel welcome. He only wants your money. He was constantly asking us to purchase bus tickets from him and was offended when we didn’t. (If his attitude was better we would of brought them him) I wish I give our custom to someone else on the island as all other locals we met were really friendly and appreciative.
We spent five nights here. The bungalows are cosy, in good condition and well equipped. The location is very quiet. The food in the restaurant was great. The owner is very accommodating and helpful. We felt very comfortable.
Best value for money we found after a month in Laos, especially if you book with them directly. Clean and spacious room, comfy bed, soft and clean bedsheets and towels. Great bathroom, with hot water in seconds. Quiet location and still easy to go to Don Det by bicycle. Just note that the owner has his own character. Don't expect long conversations and big smiles, he may seem rude sometimes, but he was always respectful, and gave us a warm goodbye although we didn't book anything else with him (not even bicycle or bus tickets). Last thing, very good restaurand, we had breakfasts and one dinner there, good portions and good food for a very cheap price.
We cannot begin to thank Mr Thong and his family for their hospitality. We ended up staying at Chanhthida Guesthouse for two months as we were there when Covid-19 began to get serious and the borders closed. Mr Thong and his wife always made us feel comfortable, kept us informed and for our two month stay there we felt truly at home. We will forever be grateful for their care and kindness particularly in such an unprecedented time. The guesthouse is in a beautiful setting by the water with regular visits from water buffalo. The room was meticulously clean with hammocks outside where we did a lot of reading. The attached restaurant is lovely, our top recommendations would be the vegetable and egg noodle soup, fresh spring rolls and stir-fried lentil curry. We could not recommend the guesthouse enough and we look forward to returning some day. P.S. Mr Thong we got home safe and hope you and your family are safe and well
