However, when we went to the bar before dinner for a drink then dinner at Krinsen, we were told that the restaurant served only the nightly buffet. nothing else. After tracking down the bartender, we were able to enjoy a nice bottle of Rose but after seeing the grazing at the buffet we felt our dinners in Svendborg should be pursued elsewhere. No comment on the buffet. It could be our lack of Internet skills, but the restaurant's transition to an all you can eat type of experience was not obvious to us when we booked this hotel.
We were at this place as a family and we had reserved a table at 12 o'clock. First we got greeted by a very condescending receptionist at the hotel where we asked to get validated parking and she talked to us like we were stupid children. Then we were seated and sat there for 10 minutes before they even took our order. It took an hour in all to get our food and the waiter didn't seem slightly apologetic about it, there was only 8 other people than us, so it wasn't even busy? The food was very poor as well, boring, tasteless and soggy. Overall a poor culinary experience, stay clear of this place if you can.
We visited Restaurant Krinsen, next to the Best Western Hotel for dinner. Reserving a table in the morning was easy. The restaurant is known by the locals for their steaks. Service 4 Friendly and professional service and spoke fluent English. All steaks did come out well done, with no red meat, rather than the ordered mediums. The waitress quickly apologised and offered to provide us with new steaks, we declined. Food 4 Our party opted for a mixture of Danish Veal T Bone steaks, as well as Uruguyan Sirlion Steaks with again a mixture of Whiskey and Peppercorn sauces. All the steaks were of a very good quality, with excellent sauces, tomatoes, mushrooms and the skin on fries were excellent. We had Chocolate cake for dessert, which was good. Value 3 Very good food and service, but we would only eat here for a special occasion, as the price is higher than the area's average.
My wife and I spent ten days in Denmark, the first four in Copenhagen, then drove down to Fyn to take in the local castles, scenery, etc. We stayed at the Best Western Svendborg as our base. We were a bit tired on our first night, read the TA reviews of the restaurant Krinsen, and took the easy way out by staying in-house for our evening meal. We made reservations for 19;00, but despite our prompt arrival, and only minimally filled restaurant, plus being hotel guests, they could not seat us until ten to fifteen minutes later. We were then promptly brought two pieces of nice bread, orders taken...it took approximately 45 minutes for our waiter, as friendly as he might have been, to finally bring us our dishes of hake. What showed up were two cakes of rather tasteless white fish, with a limited number of small cubes of what were probably diced turnips. There was a side bowl of boiled potatoes accompanied by a heavy and unpleasant brown sauce. We needed something to lighten up our taste buds after that, we opted for the peanut butter ice cream cake, which was a postage stamp sized offering that tasted like something that had been frozen for several months and then thawed....stale cake, tasteless. And ended up with a tab over $100. So, we obviously dined elsewhere during the remainder of our visit. We are usually very flexible and go with the flow when we travel, have posted multiple four and five star ratings of other sites, restaurants, hotels, but sad to say, we have to truthfully report that this was one big disappointment.
I am an occasional business visitor to the area and prefer a mix of authentic Danish and Classic dishes served in attractive surroundings. Krinsen has yet to disappoint. I gave this restaurant five stars to help rightfully help place as one of the top handful of dining rooms in Svendborg. Lovely Svendborg has a few choices for good restaurants. Krinsen is one of the best. Staff is experienced, attentive and professional. My usual server comes with 7 years of professional schooling. They will make your experience quite comfortable. Decor and atmosphere is quality modern. Menus tend to be seasonal offerings of meats, fish or fowl, seasoned or sauced without overpowering the natural flavors The breakfast buffet deserves special mention if you are staying at the hotel. For freshness, quality, and diversity, it is not surpassed by the world class hotels of the major cities. A very good choice.
