The Rake Riddle - Swansea

Coming to the end of our holiday on Tuesday we found the Rake and Riddle to be one of a few open on Mondays, many seem to be closed Monday some not even opening til Thursday. We booked on the phone for a party of 4, this was easy and straightforward, 1/2 of the party are celiac so can’t eat food with gluten/wheat. The restaurant section is situated on the ground floor with the bar on the second. There was ample space between tables. Service was quick, and we were able to communicate our requirements, with the waitress aware of our requirements; we ordered soft drinks and water, 2 steaks (both gluten free), gammon and a burger. Unfortunately with the steaks one still can out with battered onion rings that were removed from the plate once highlighted but in retrospect feel the meal was then contaminated as the person had a extremely bad stomach the day later (hence -1 star) Deserts were good, and was able to easily pay without any delay when finished. So a great evening but better training of kitchen staff is required in respects to allergies, and food handling.

Family went for a birthday celebration on Friday evening. Bar staff made mistakes with drinks order and gave malibu and coke not lemonade. There ware 9 addults and 2 babies. The food orders wer supposed to all come together at the same time but my sister her partner and son all had a long wait for their meals. When we asked how come there was such a long wait they offered my sister a free glass of wine by way of an apology but it would have been better if the food had all come at the same time. We ordered 3 Lasagne, 2 beef and 1 chicken and bacon from the specials board the servers brought us 4 and didn't know which ones they were. The steaks ordered were supposed to come with pepper sauce but tasted strongly of curry. this is the 2nd time family members have vistied where meals have not been what was ordered so maybe the staff need better training and more diligence with bringing correct dishes to the right customers. The venue is lovely and I even had a laugh with the bar man when one of the bar staff didn't appear to understand him telling her he was going to change the coke syrup and to pour a diet coke for me so I was quite disappointed in our experience. That said, when i got my correct chicken and bacon lasagne it was very tasty. Sadly we won't return again.

What A Fantastic Place to Eat went with my Elderly Parents we are on Holiday at the caravan park down the road we did nt know what to expect but how Fantastic the Staff were especially Julie , made us feel very welcome food was Amazing, and my Parents went back to evening s later and the staff remembered them and again had a Lovely evening thankyou All you made our Holiday xxx

The 3 of us all had different meals and nothing complain about with any of them , staff nice and pleasant . Very evening inside and out .
