Mandarin Fish - Swindon

This is our local fish and chop shop and usually we drive to another one as we didn’t have a great experience with this one a few years ago. Thought we’d try it again. Fish was lovely and fresh with light batter but the chips tasted like they’d been sat there for hours, they were all tiny crispy little chips, not potatoey chips so quite disappointed, especially for £17 something for 2 fish and chips and a battered sausage. This was 6pm so at peak time so would expect fresher chips. Would try again as 3rd time luckily but if it’s disappointing for a third time will probably give up.

My only complaint is that there is always a queue as they are so good! They are also cashless, so don't forget your card.

I wasn’t impressed at all, the portion size, the taste of the fish , it needs to be a bit less crispy on the batter I felt it was burnt. Took for ever also , I felt they needed important improvement,

Fish and Chips on Thames Avenue has been my go to chip shop every week since early 2018. Sometimes I pop down to the chip shop even when I don’t want chips, I enjoy the customer service and quality of staff working there. There is nothing the girls (and the recent addition of the boys won’t do, nothing is ever too much for them. Their staff are friendly, funny and fantastic. They are always laughing and joking with one another, whilst remaining perfectly professional. Service with a smile always! Even when the shop appears insanely busy the staff keep their cool and get the job done! Enough about the incredible staff, who are an absolute credit to themselves and the management. The food… Food, glorious food! They have an extensive menu (which the staff have the most incredible knowledge about- especially with allergies so all diets can be accommodated for. What other chip shop offers Gluten Free on a Monday, burgers of all kinds and even battered halloumi?! The portion sizes are generous, food is filling and definitely worth that extra bit of money. You get what you pay for, and you’re most definitely getting the hugest quality of food for not so much money in my opinion. Which other chip shop also offers delivery through Just Eat and a Click and Collect Service AND a covid safe and secure way of ordering at the door? The only place I can think of is Fish and Chips on Thames Avenue. They’ve won the good food award 2 (nearly 3 years in a row, and that wasn’t for nothing. The commitment and dedication which all staff have put into the chip shop does not go unnoticed at all. They have customers queuing from half past four on a Friday just to get their fish and chips to avoid a mile long queue- if that doesn’t tell you how good their food is, I don’t know what else will.
