The staff was not knowledgeable or available. The temperature in the restaurant was uncomfortabley hot to the extent that we passed on an appetizer and dessert so we could leave as quickly as possible. We were misled by Triple A's rating.
We had expected to go to this restaurant for a leisurely meal with a nice bottle of wine. The waiter was lovely however not experienced in the art of service. We had ordered our meal of rack of lamb after the usual small talk and a bottle of wine. The waiter hadn't know what to do with the wine asking us if she should bring it to the table. We told she to bring it and uncork it to allow it to breath. She didn't pour the wine or ask us for a tasting. The appetizer of fish cakes was too large and rubbery lacking taste. Smoke salmon was okay.We had asked for the lamb to be pink which it was not. It had an unfamiliar brown sauce. The potato had a good intention however was rubber, the veggies were just okay. The meal was an injustice to rack of lamb. There was a green mint liquid served with the meal which could of been scope mouth wash? Not a mint sauce or jelly. The meal was at premium dollars. The restaurant dated and smelled of old perfume. Any one calling them self a chef preparing this should be ashamed.
The restaurant is in a building separate from the hotel rooms, a nice area with flowers in the garden around the patio at the entrance. The pork chop with strawberry-rhubarb sauce included a small portion of mashed potato, vegetables (carrots, squash, peas, peppers,) green salad, fruit jello for dessert. Portions were small. The meal was good.
The food was very good but the service was outstanding. They deal with large groups of people (tour buses) and have it down to an art form. Being a coffee snob I was not happy with the coffee but very happy with the meals.
After our ride around the Cape Breton highlands on the Cabot Trail, my wife and I ate in the Inn's dining room. I had the chicken stuffed with Armagnac prunes. The food was good and the wait staff were fun to chat with, giving us good tips for our next day's drive.
