Benchmark packs a surprisingly hefty punch despite its petite size. Nestled in a nook between the Cuban Place and Newton's Pharmacy opposite the QVB, you'll walk right past if you're not looking. Once you're here, order your coffee of choice plus a Choripán roll with Chimichurri sauce a house specialty and you'll have change from a tenner. Banter between regulars and staff keeps the atmosphere warm despite being right in the city.During the week, expect a long line of caffeine starved suits until the 9 am mark; even so, you can usually find a seat outside to sit and eat. Of a Saturday, Jim or Gab stick around until 1pm or so, and it's relaxed the whole day.Bonus points to Benchmark for offering healthy fresh juices, Bonsoy; almond milk (so many places in the CBD don't) and no EFTPOS surcharge even on a $3 purchase.
Great coffee and the service and hospitality was fantastic . The seating outside is a bonus ad you get to admire the beautiful QVB building. I tried the Argentino sandwich which was brilliant.
New addition to York St and welcome around QVB as outside of Workshop it can be hard to find a decent coffee on a Saturday. And this is Decent coffee. In fact I had two, along with a super short caramel biscuit and better than usual toasted banana bread. There's a few tables on the pavement for those who wish to linger otherwise as a grab and go heart starter, I would suggest Benchmark is worthy of a try if it's on your path.
Staff are great and the food we ordered was made fresh, flavoured well and thoroughly enjoyable and definately made with care. Vegetarian options available and a decent menu selection overall. Will be back again to try a few other items of the menu. Pricing is reasonable on most items.
