We've had people tell us that the food and service has gotten worse and we simply put it off as unrealistic expectations. Unfortunately they are right this time. It's a dated pub in a dated strip mall and while we are fully aware that we are not in a 5* establishment we do expect, at the very least, a great drink and cooked food. After returning the Caesar because it was bitter it went downhill from there. Our waitress was gracious enough however the person who made the drink and the owner proceed to glare me down the rest of the night. I caught their glare and would have walked out but we were with friends who frequent there so out of respect for them we stayed. We had already ordered and 3 appetizers were on the way in addition to our pricy meals. The bacon wrapped scallops were not cooked. Instead of making s fresh batch they threw them in the deep fryer and brought them back out. It was so unappealing that we ended up sending it back. At this point we should have just cancelled everything because you know that it's all down hill from there. My ribs were dry, the zucchini mushy, the garlic toast barely toasted and the only thing relatively appetizing were the sweet potato fries and cooked carrots. At no point did the owner come over and apologize or attempt to make it right. She was more concerned with having her back up and glaring me down. Can't recommend this place anymore. There are a lot of other places to choose from in Sylvan. Unless you're a local and meeting up with your friends at the local pub, it's not welcoming to "outsiders". Did I tip? Yes I did! 15% because even though it will be split, it wasn't the waitress' fault.
First time being to open range has kind of a dive bar feel (not in a bad way) waitress where good and quick. To start we had hot wings and the bacon wrapped scallops. The wings were good like any other pub the scallops were great they came with garlic toast which was a nice little surprise it was really great too. They have a great menu with a wide range of meals and lots of seafood which I loved. The food is all extremely reasonably priced especially considering its seafood. For our mains my boyfriend has the special which was the steak and crab and it was only $16.95 and it came with 4-6 crab legs, a small steak, Caesar salad and garlic toast. The crab was awesome a little one the sweet side which was delicious the steak was average but the rest of the meal made up for that. For my main I had the seafood melt which was awesome I loved that it was real crab and shrimp on it not the imitation stuff, I just had it with fries and gravy which were really good too. I would definitely return it was an unexpectedly good meal! I'm happy we decided to go and try something different.
Great little pub atmosphere. Clean, waitresses quick & curteous. Husbands favorite haunt for hockey games & beer.
Very rustic! The food is great and reasonably priced. Drinks are a great price too. Waitresses are good and the relationship that is developed becomes more of a "family type of connection". Nice!
We often go to the Open Range for their Steak and Crab special on Saturday night. It is always and excellent meal...even if you don't like Seafood the menu has lots of good food to choose from. We like to get their early as it is a little quieter. As the night goes on, it is generally more crowded the music is louder and sometimes there is live music. Depends on what you like...quiet or not so quiet. Regardless the food is great!
