Biggest problem was exceptionally long wait for food .... and then to be told they couldn't accommodate my order .. food finally arrived and was stodgy and the salad was limp and not a spot of dressing in sight ... my husband ordered the fish ... same deal and no tartare... this was a function so they new numbers to cater for....
Charming little place with a rustic/country feel. The staff were welcoming and very friendly. The food was GOOD with plenty of options to choose from.
We went for dinner last night, hubby booked a table by the fire, it was toasty and warm. We were in and out in under an hour with entree and main and a couple of drinks,Perfect. Food is good pub food nothing super flash but yummy, filling and fresh. I've seen Dan turn around another small town pub and this is just the same. Excellent job, it's so good to see a small pub in a small town doing so well after all these years. I love having a decent country pub close enough for a quick dinner. Thanks guys.
Our waitress knew the menu well and wanted to know about us which we found enjoyable. The business is under new management, we ordered a glass of Brown Brothers Cienna (wine) and a whisky sour that needed some explaining to the new bar person making for some more interesting conversation. Both ordered the pork roast and enjoyed the ample helping, sticky date pudding for dessert. Considering how busy it was the noise level was low and pleasant and the staff still had time to accommodate us. A nice touch actually. Will be going back with friends and a booking.
Found atmosphere and service to be exceptional, so friendly and couldn't do enough to please us. The meal how ever was a different story, all three meals where very ordinary. I had chicken Kiev, it came out on the bone and on top of mashed potato and some small lettuce leaves with a piece of cucumber, onion and no tomato to be found. Found the potato tasted like powered mash and the combo of salad and mash was awful. Chicken got pink towards bone so could only eat 3/4 . Both other meals had way to many chips and same little salad. All of us agreed that it was not a place we would come back too for the food. Oh! Complimentary water tasted terrible. No disability access available either, both steps up to bar area and eating area. Such a pity .
