I highly suggest trying the Choo Chee Chicken. On the downside, I have noticed smaller portion sizes recently and I do not recommend the Laksa as it lacks authenticity. The meals seem to be predominantly westernized. I recommend making a reservation for Friday and Saturday evenings.
The restaurant is nice, but it feels very Westernized. The flavors were good overall, especially the decent-sized and tasty prawns in the Cashew Prawn dish. The Beef with Black Bean Sauce was also good and had a nice kick of chili. The service was average, with some unhelpful responses when asking for menu recommendations. The atmosphere had potential but could use more music, especially considering the themed decor. I might consider returning in the warmer months.
Delicious AND Pretty!. Okay, the first thing I want to say is that I really must start taking my camera to some of these places. The decor inside this restaurant was very pleasing (I particularly liked the random purple chairs dotted amongst the dark grey ones and they have some rather dramatic light fittings Even the toilets were interesting! With a high ceiling and a rather art deco/art nouveau feel.<br/ <br/ Mangosteen sits opposite the picturesque and historic Tea Tree Gully Hotel and is quite newly opened. Cuisine is South East Asian with Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai and Chinese. Prices are perhaps bordering on mid range, although I 'm inclined to say they 're quite cheap, really.<br/ <br/ Well, the food was absolutely delicious, with that rare 'delicacy of flavour ' as I call it (I 'm no gastronomic expert and have no idea how else to describe it) that is usually experienced in more expensive restaurants. I was really impressed! So was my partner.<br/ <br/ I had the salt and pepper bean curd, my partner had the Angkor Chicken and we ordered seasonal green vegetables on the side. Interestingly, I am not a fan of that particularly soft, silky textured type of bean curd normally. But this dish was great, the texture was amazing, the crispness perfect!<br/ <br/ The serves were not huge, although it was just enough for me. For someone with a bigger stomach, maybe order an extra side dish (we shared one side dish between two).<br/ <br/ With how good this food was for this price range, and how lovely the whole place is to even look at, I 'm giving Mangosteen a very good score! 9/10.
The food is delicious, service is fast, and atmosphere is great. This restaurant is a fantastic choice for takeout or dining in. They offer a variety of tasty dishes, from curries to salt and pepper squid. Don't forget to try the amazing rice as well.
Fusion Asian (Thai, Khmer , Vietnamese , Malaysian, Indian) .. The foods were delicious! Not authentic but delicious! The atmosphere and decors felt like being in a Thai restaurant in Thailand! Lovely service and $15 corkage fee
