Carpenter's Farm Shop And - Tendring

My friend made a reservation for 3 people over the phone at this restaurant. We had been there before, but not since Covid. It was recommended to us by a friend who is a regular and lives in the village, but none of us will be returning. When we arrived, we were informed by the person at the counter that our table was only reserved for 90 minutes, which was not mentioned when the reservation was made over the phone. This information is not stated on the restaurant's website or menu, although there was a reference to it on their Facebook page in March. The waitress told us that this policy was well known among their regular customers, but this was news to us. Both my son and I work in the hospitality industry and were taken aback by the defensive and unapologetic tone of the lady who served us. We finished our coffee and decided to leave. We then found another restaurant 10 minutes away where the welcome and hospitality were much more pleasant.

I had lunch with a friend at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, until the moment we left, we felt welcomed. The service was excellent, as was the quality of the food. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. The prices were very reasonable. We definitely plan on returning and would highly recommend this place to others.

This is a great place to eat. Excellent food and friendly efficient service in a converted 18th/19th century barn full of character. You can also sit outside. Their breakfasts are particularly good, including an all day one. Parking on site. Thoroughly recommended

We booked table for this special Burns evening, as they normally close at 18.00 hrs on a Friday. Only one in the group was of Scottish descent, but at £30 each for this fantastic food, scotch broth, haggis neeps and tatties, fillet steak and chips, strawberries, shortbread and cream, and a Piper, what is not to like! This is a seriously good place to eat. I suspect the new owners (Taylor Hall) are trying hard to provide good food, and service, at very attractive prices, and I will return!
