Ixtapa Mexican - The Dalles

The restaurant was quite busy, which made the service a bit slow, but the staff was incredibly friendly. I appreciated how everyone worked together to ensure our drinks were refilled and asked if we wanted more chips. We ordered the carne asada, and it was outstanding—probably the best we’ve ever had. One plate was more than enough for the two of us. Everything that passed by our table looked and smelled fantastic.

My sister and I were staying at a nearby hotel for the weekend and needed to find a place for dinner after a long day at a craft fair. I discovered this restaurant on Google Maps, so we decided to give it a try. As soon as we were seated, we were welcomed with a large basket of hot chips and salsa. The staff was attentive with refills, and the food was outstanding. There was a small mix-up with one of our enchiladas (I ordered chicken but received steak), but the staff was incredibly kind and provided us with an extra enchilada to take with us. I will definitely return here next year when we’re in town again!

I would strongly advise against dining at this restaurant. The service was disappointing, as our waitress was hardly present. The margaritas lacked tequila, or at least it was undetectable. My husband's tortilla soup was essentially just chicken, cilantro, and warm water. Similarly, my enchiladas were tasteless. Having lived in various places and experienced authentic Mexican cuisine, I can confidently say that this restaurant does not offer an authentic experience. Our food arrived so quickly that it felt like we were being served leftovers.
