Reservation was perfect, sitting for 4 adults and 2 children, perfect, service was right on, disappointment to ALL came when the food arrived, Queso Flameado- horrible, no flavor, no heat, tortilla was close. Dinner was served, Mixta Ninfa and #1 favorite plate) Tejas Combo, seriously Ninfa cooks, come on, cold white and pink shrimp with no seasoning? THE worst and most unforgivable mistake was the Fajita meat was CUT WITH GRAIN, shame on you, all fajita meat on our plates were cut wrong and the fajitas were tough! Surprise Tough Fajitas at Ninfa 's, sad The atmosphere and the service was and always has been spot on , food is why you come back, BYE! Chris
Last night may have been the single worst tex-mex food I have ever had, this coming from a lifetime Houstonian who knows that its not the same as the OG! They cut the fajita beef WITH THE GRAIN... feel free to continue reading but that should tell you everything but lets get in to story time. I had a client from out of state who I wanted to experience Houston Tex-Mex but not authentic as in Spanish Flower, Teotihuacan, or any other legit shopping strip tex-mex place, she needed the 'Houston ' vibe where we love our food, culture, but can get bougie in boots. Arrival at Ninfa 's was great, reservation ready to go and even got to sit in the front room like the good 'ol days. Wait staff was on point and got us what we needed timely, no complaints on the service at all. Chips, salsa, and queso. It was just meh! Not bad but just lacking flavor overall. Cool we can push past this no problem. Order my classic favorite the table-side flameado, remember the old days when they would use the spoons to perfectly roll your taco, i have perfected this trick now but clearly they have not. It was a quick mix of ingredients that included 1/10th of the normal amount of chorizo. And again it was meh, seriously not terrible but man it just lacked everything. The tortilla game is as close to original mama ninfas but still just missing something. Push forward, lets get the Mixta Ninfa and Tejas combo, again going for the classic that you can 't mess up. Well, color me surprise when the food arrived less than 5 minutes after we ordered... this is going to be sus. Lets start with the mixta ninfa, the shrimp was in the 'hot ' molcajete cold and rubbery. Odd because it appeared cooked to perfection, wasn 't curled touching itself, but it was cold. The only flavor on the chicken was an overly powerful smoky taste which i normally love but felt off and then it hit me. Are they microwaving the food? Have not confirmed but it would make sense with the shrimp to be dialed in but cold/rubbery. Then we got to the beef fajita. Grabbed a piece to take a quick bite like an absolute heathen and felt like my dog when she 's trying to get the toy out of my hand... just grrrrrr shaking my head back and forth. Then I looked at the meat only to notice its WITH THE GRAIN... WHAT THE ACTUAL, I dont care if you dont season it cut it correctly so I am not chewing a saddle YOU UNCULTURED SWINES. Now I am mad and embarrassed. Bump over to the Tejas Combo because we are just going to eat sort of family style. The crispy taco is straight up old el paso, you know how I came to this conclusion... because it has the flat spot down the middle so it can stand up on its end and not fall over.. come on thats just lazy but still not as lazy as CUTTING WITH THE GRAIN. Whatever, let me snack on this cheezy enchilada. Finally! It was good, super cheesy, red sauce on point, I 'll take the W where i can get it. Then we get to the rice... you know what, I 'll just stop here. Thank you for making it this far, please please do not take people you care about here for good tex-mex. The service was great, no complaints at all. I 'm done, I 'm sad, I didn 't want it to be this way but ce la vie
Great place, food was A+ plan on it always being crowded but for a table for 2 it was great Parking: Parking is in the back, it is difficult to park plan to valet or if you are quite good at parking in tight place go for it
Have been going to Ninfa's (various locations for many years. This visit was a disappointment. Super crowded, slow, interrupted service...even food was not as good as I remembered. Our waiter was as attentive as he could be, unlike the hostess(? in our area. Wheelchair accessibility: Could not imagine a wheelchair as crowded as it was (mid afternoon early evening
Has really gone down hill. Look, Mexican food is about your tortilla game and if you have a bad tortilla, it’s game over. They used to have nice tortillas in a warmer and now they just wrap the tortillas in tin foil and call it a day. As a result the tortillas dry out quickly and are hard. Try enjoying a fajita with a cardboard texture tortilla.
