Attentive, friendly staff and clean standard room, many with views of the water. good for a quick stay. minus without minibar, although they get refreshments from the consierge. standard Norwegian TV channels, no payment per view.
The hotel is decent and the staff are friendly, but I encountered a few issues during my 3-day stay. Firstly, my room was never cleaned or made up despite my requests. Secondly, the restaurant and bar close early at around 9:00 pm and if there are not enough guests in the hotel, the restaurant may not open at all, leaving guests with no dining options. Lastly, during the winter, when I opened the window for fresh air, the room became too cold, and when the heating was on, it made the room too dry and stuffy. Overall, the hotel may be better suited for a stay during the summer months.
The rooms do not have tea, coffee, or other beverages. The restaurant only offers burgers and pizza on certain nights. The gym is poorly maintained, lacking towels and with bins that have not been emptied for weeks. The hotel is outdated and worn. The TV does not have functioning channels. There is no room service available. The hotel staff may make guests wait for an hour for a cup of tea without offering an alternative solution, and can become aggressive if you complain. The manager may promise a room upgrade, but they do not always follow through. I have been staying here since 2005, but after a disappointing six-week stay last year, I will not be returning. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel. Despite being advertised as a 4-star hotel, in reality, it is more like a 2-star establishment. The only highlight is its proximity to the sea, but that alone does not make up for its shortcomings.
As far as I know, this is the only place in Tønsberg that offers selected vegan options. The menu has been updated since the photos were taken, but they still offer a lasagna, a black bean burger, chocolate lava cake, and lemon mousse. We were very impressed with the desserts and the burger (we have not tried the lasagna), but our dining experience has declined since then. My friend and I have visited the restaurant multiple times, only to find that they no longer have BBQ sauce or mushroom bacon for the burger, and their amazing vegan aioli has also been removed from the menu. Despite this, we still hold out hope that the restaurant will return to its initial greatness, but so far we have had no luck. The prices are quite high, but that seems to be the norm for dining out in Norway.
