The menu choices were great, and all our 3 courses came well prepared with good size portions.I had the suggested standard wine pairings which went great with all the dishes. Our initial server was personable, prompt and explained everything well. Then others got involved in looking after us. They were ok, except; When we reserved, I told them it was an anniversary dinner, but we seated at a table in the middle of the room, and I got to stare through the kitchen door all evening:I also advised that my wife was lactose intolerant, but they took this to mean that she was also gluten free, and they assumed I had the same issues (most servers have a poor understanding of food allergies), so initially they brought gluten free bread, and no butter; While the service was prompt, and everything arrived hot and tasty, after the dessert was served, no one came by to check to see if we wanted anything else. I would have really enjoyed a cappuccino. After waiting too long, we just asked for the check and left. But they did do the "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate script on a dessert plate. What started off very good, ended without the usual charm you expect to experience in a fine dining establishment like Bosk.
Not terribly impressed with Bosk restaurant at Shangri-la. Hotel. Hotel dining rooms are notoriously bad but this was very disappointing given that the hotel itself is very nice. Wine list is so so by the glass. Most expensive bottle is a rose by Dom...Perignon. Chairs are heavy and difficult to move in towards table or backwards to exit. The amuse bouche was very nice but I couldn't understand the server, he said it so quickly and ran off, all I heard was hamachi I was surprised at how plump the oysters from P.E.I. were. Paired with a glass of Henri Abele brut. And then it all went south... The green pea soup, poured with much fanfare, can be served either cold or hot. I asked for cold as it was still degrees outside and the terrace doors were open thereby not creating a well air conditioned atmosphere. Waiter asked how I was enjoying it and I replied it should be called Stinging Nettle soup I received the Stinging Nettle veloute from the tasting menu in error. Maybe label your bottles... I paired it with a Catharine rose from Henry Pelham in NOTL. The halibut was terribly overcooked and dry. The artichoke was inedibly hard but the fennel puree was very nice albeit, far over seasoned. The Signature Sylvaner, Rene Mure from Alsace was crisp and would have been a perfect complement had the fish been prepared properly. Please do not ask me if I want pepper before I have even tasted the dish and I always assume chef has seasoned it correctly, so why continue this charade ? The waiter knew I was displeased so brought me a prettily plated smooth cheesecake with gold leaf but a very grainy Mocha ice cream, on the house. Breakfast the next morning wasn't much better. I was seated immediately however, waited over minutes to see a tea menu. There were only other tables at the time. I opted for the breakfast table which has smoked salmon, fruit, cereals, pastries brought in and placed on shelves, some above your head, and under a bright light that shines right into your eyes. Why ? I obviously did not breakfast there the second morning I was there. Dress code is business casual however, for both meals I saw people dressed like they just came from Walmart. Overall, I'd give it a and that's generous. I will return to the hotel but definitely not the restaurant.
If you're looking for a special place to celebrate, give Bosk a try. The decor is stunning, located in the Shangri-La Hotel, and the service is excellent. We opted for the four-course meal, which featured very unique flavors. While it is pricey, it is definitely worth the cost.
Fantastic outdoor seating - perfect to catch up with friends over a beautiful setting. I loved the atmosphere. Fantastic service and experience with everyone I dealt with. Great selection of wines, but I shall be back for the cocktails!
Had breakfast two mornings. Wonderful French press coffee and breakfast offerings. Juices were fresh squeezed. The staff was attentive and happy to please.
