This was our first time trying Malaysian style food, so we figured the tasting menu was our best option. We love tasting style dinners and our typical favourites are Indonesian and Indian. We felt the dishes were quite bland in comparison; not a ton of flavour. My husband’s favourite were the sticky chilli chicken wings and my favourite was the slaw/peanut salad. It is a very busy spot! We didn’t have a reservation, so we ended up eating at the bar. The chairs are very uncomfortable and it was SO hot in the restaurant, despite being a cool summer night outside tonight. The music was quite loud, so it was hard for my husband and I to even have a conversation. It was also really hard to hear the waiter explain what each course was. The wine was good, but $15 for a small glass seems steep. Our bill was over $190 for two tasting menu dinners 3 drinks total and tip. The staff, however, were all very friendly and helpful.
Speaking as someone born and raised in Singapore (adjacent to Malaysia , this place is phenomenal! It's hard enough to find a Malaysian restaurant here, much less an authentic one. Unlike other restaurants that water down the flavours for the western palate, I can say that Soos strives to retain authenticity in every dish.We ordered the Feed Me, which is like a Chef's Tasting Menu. The price is incredibly reasonable so we were not expecting much food, but we were completely full by the end of our 7 course meal. The standout dishes were the fish curry (brilliant use of lemon grass! , the char kway teow, the roti prata and sambal octopus. Everything from the flavours to the presentation took me right back to the tropics of Southeast Asia.We got the teapot cocktails and they were both great. The pulau tea was surprisingly strong but the pineapple one was definitely a hit be careful not to overindulge because it has a high alcohol content despite the sweetness!Overall, I was very pleased with my experience here. Will definitely be back the next time I'm craving food from home!
We really enjoyed this place. We went for an early dinner without reservations and they were able to seat us immediately. We did the feed me and it was well worth it. Got numerous and varied dishes, some were light and others were heftier, all were good and a few were amazing. Plates were changed out appropriately but silverware was never changed out. Probably not enough napkins since wings was a course . Also enjoyed the the non alcoholic drink (not included and alcohol is also available). Also dessert is not included but we were not hungry for that. Service was friendly and Knowledgeable.
My cousin suggested this restaurant and I’m glad she did because this has become one of my top restaurants in the city. The food was absolutely amazing, from presentation to the taste. We did the feed me option and were so full by the end of it. Service was really good as well, attentive and knowledge about the food and drink menu. Best part for my lactose intolerant folks, no dairy on the menu. My favourite two were the Dahl Roti and the slaw. Can’t wait to return!Vegetarian options: Tons of vegetarian options.Kid-friendliness: No kids menu and I didn’t see any high chairs. I wouldn’t say this is a kid friendly space, but you can try.Parking: Green P located at Ossington and Queen, limited space. Possibly less than 20 spots. One side of Ossington has parking throughout the day, the opposite states you can’t park from 4-6pm. People still park, but just an increased chance of obtaining a parking ticket.Wheelchair accessibility: Washrooms are not accessible as they are located in the basement.Dietary restrictions: We’ll accommodate to dietary restrictions.
Food and service were great! There isn’t a lot of south east asian cuisine (specifically Malaysian, Laos, and Indonesian food) in Toronto, so having to experience this at Soos was good.
