I was in Tours for the past couple of days, and found this unexpected "gem" of a bar, just on the other side of the train station while walking to a restaurant for dinner. Though I had my handy Tripadvisor app on my iPhone, it doesn't really have a "bar" category, and I was headed to dinner. I passed by, and was immediately struck by the very cool atmosphere -- lots of old chairs and couches spread out on a large terrace. At first, I thought it was a garage-sale! But on closer inspection, there was cool jazz/funk playing, so I stopped for a drink. The menu came in loose-leaf printed pages on a clipboard, and reading it was I real treat!! Not only interesting reading in terms of cool vignettes about drinks from famous people, but the drinks list was AMAZING!! Everything from old, classic drinks from Manhattans to Sazerac, but also a very unique list of some of their "house concoctions" - complete with "drool-provoking", and poetic descriptions for each one (in French). Though I only ventured in to pay my bill, the inside of the bar is cosy, and filled with little "clin-d'oeils" artistic, humorous, and antique. The barman was so sweet, and immediately upon greeting me with my "pug", brought her a bowl of water, and played with her. Needless to say, I returned the next afternoon to sample more! They also have a really cool looking "nibbles" menu, with everything from eggs, to a burger, roasted Camembert, charcuterie ++. Unfortunately, (perhaps because it's summer?), the menu was limited to only a burger, hotdog, or charcuterie. The drinks were fabulous and very interesting. I tried 5 different ones. Everything a bit unusual, home-made and delicious! The menu alone is worth the read, it's awesome. EBK stands for "Everything But Knowhere", which should give you a hint about the effort they have taken in not only their menu, their carefully thought-through decorative vibe, and of course, their "cocktail mixology". Vibe is very cool, casual, and very mixed crowd. I was seated next to a group of heavily tattooed (but very cool) group once, and a table of lively Antillaise girls and their kids the next day. BTW, wifi access too, which was good for me while researching a book while sipping quietly on the terrace. Too cool!
Go !
