Just the right amount and I would say good enough value for $75 per person. She takes things up a notch with excellent flavour and you could just tell she'd put her love into the food. Highly recommend!
Excellent service , beautiful fresh local food. highly recommended. What could be better than a country atmosphere, relaxed dining and no decisions to be made just be fed and enjoy sharing
My score 4.5 stars (I've never given 5). J I occasionally have a 2 night getaway to Daylesford/Hepburn Springs. We've eaten lunch at du F twice on the way home (when the stars have aligned) had two great meals/experiences. Rustic tables, interesting décor, unpretentious food relaxed service. Think simple French food, done really well with great ingredients. Highlight undoubtedly was the Confit duck, matched only by a home prepped/cooked one I had in the South of France. Probably a good thing it's in Trentham can only imagine how long the waiting list for a table would be if it was in Melbourne...
We tried to make a reservation here for a Monday lunch and were put on a wait list. We tried again on the morning of our departure for Castlemaine and to our delight were rung back just as we were about to leave to be told that there had been a cancellation. The lunch consisted of a set menu of Annie Smithers choices for the week. This included a very generous serve of a fabulous terrine. Then came a smoked trout salad followed by roast chicken with potatoes and greens followed by our choice of a desert or cheese.A truly memorable meal with superb quality food, perfectly cooked and great service in a most pleasant surroundings.
A TREAT! My partner and I booked our Daylesford trip very late and with only 4 weeks until our trip I had heard about a great restaurant nestled in the Main Street of Trentham that served sensational food in a relaxed environment which was hard to get into ie don't try book it 3 4 weeks out. <br/ <br/ BUT after being placed on the wait list for a Monday lunch we got a late call up saying there was a cancellation and did we want it? Of course we **** did! Knowing that we had no idea what we would be served until the day was quite exciting and as we sat down and our lovely waiter reeled off what Annie was thinking today we knew we were in for a special day. I must also add that the service for our entire meal was fantastic run by a two person team who service all the little tables. <br/ <br/ Firstly, the bread .. to die for. I really wanted to hide some of those baguettes in my jacket on the way out it was that good warm and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. We decided to go with the 3 course option of Entree , Main Dessert (you receive the appetiser no matter what) with the first dish, our appertiser, being the Smoked Trout so fresh and so delicious. I was really excited for our Entree, Gruyere Cheese Soufflé something I had never had before and was delighted to see a lady pop in during the service with a hidden bag of truffles to accompany this dish wow the soufflé wasn't too overpowering and I just wanted the bowl to be never ending. <br/ <br/ Our next course was the Main Lamb cooked two ways first part: Braised lamb shoulder with white beans second part: Lamb Loins in a vinaigrette salad both were delicious and the lamb shoulder just fell right off the bone. <br/ <br/ On to dessert struggle town here from all the bread and we had the Seville Orange Pudding (they give you the option of Dessert of Cheese) and it was bitter and sweet and a delicious texture. <br/ <br/ Sadly, our meal was over and we had to leave. I cannot wait to return here again!
