Half of the way it describes it dishes are not exactly what the customers will understand them. However, that being said, we had a very good meal here. We didn't go for menu del dia (that is only for when we really run out of ideas) and we went to each separate dishes. We got the jamon too and we didn't like it either but we did think it's bellota (although whoever sliced it has no skills whatsoever). Our grilled marinated pork and grilled steak were tender and flavourful. What we liked also was the bread which was so warm and so good. Service was ok, although not as warm as you would expect from small towns in Spain. Still, it ain't too bad if you are looking for atmosphere.
There are lots of bars and restaurants around the Plaza Mayor in Trujillo. And I ate at a few of them mostly the informal sort. But for one night I wanted to have a proper, two or three course dinner, and I chose the Pillete. What a pity I did. For the starter I chose the Jamon Bellota, which should have been the best of the best. But what was served were rough slices of a coarse, stringy ham, not the melt in the mouth delicacy I'd been anticipating. I have doubts that we were given Bellota at all: I suspect they thought we could make do with an inferior grade of ham. The main courses were disappointing in a different way. My partner's dish was listed on the menu as coming with vegetables, yet none was served. In my case, whatever taste my fish may have had was smothered in a thick sauce that was somehow reminiscent of 1970s British cooking. (For the record: that's not good. When the bill arrived we realised we had paid over twice what previous nights' meals had cost when we ate at informal bar/restaurants. And yet the food was worse.
