The wife will come from the kitchen to greet her customers with smiles and warm conversation. They are a great couple and then you taste the treats and they are wonderful. There is so much to try and everyday there could be something different.
Río Express is now located close to plaza nariño and the main plaza. The location is very relaxing and the owners have expanded the range of savory tarts and snacks. The breakfast is excellent with fresh orange juice, good coffee, croissant and eggs cooked how you like them. Try the golosos ! There is also a range of cakes and Mimos ice cream all of which makes this place unique in VdL. I love it
The speciality of the house is a Brazilian snack called a Coxinha. Don't miss one of these...it's truly heavenly. Also the Quibe of North African Origen but popular in Brazil. Rio has great coffee, snacks, ice cream, cakes, sandwiches and of course excellent coffee that is produced in Santa Marta. The hospitality of the owners is second to none in Villa de Leyva. This is also one of the cheapest cafes in town which is why the locals love it !
We stopped in for breakfast with a group of friends. The owner is married to a woman from Brazil and lived in Oklahoma for several years. He treated us well.Very tasty breakfast. The menu has four breakfast combos as well as a la carte items. If you are pining for waffles or pancakes they have it.Also very good coffee and disserts.
Maybe the only place with a Brasilian taste in the little town. The empanads with chicken and cream cheese were very good and tasty. Also tried a little pastry, like a mince pie, with nuts and dried prunes and was also good. we'd love to go back to try some more.
