One of my all-time favorite authentic dishes is the BANH XEO CHAY veggie crepe. This delightful crepe is made with rice flour, turmeric, and sesame oil, and is filled with bean sprouts, green onions, and fried tofu. You eat it wrap-style using romaine lettuce and mint, dipping it into a veggie sauce. I love adding Thai chili and garlic to the dipping sauce, which resembles their secret “fish sauce jungle sauce.” Another must-try is the CHA GIO CHAY veggie eggrolls. These eggrolls contain taro and daikon, giving them a satisfying “meaty” texture. Be sure to wrap them in romaine lettuce and mint before enjoying them with the veggie sauce, a great substitute for fish sauce. For something a bit different, try the PHO AP CHAO pan-fried noodle stir-fry. These rice noodles are pan-fried in sesame oil until crispy and topped with a stir-fry of broccoli, bok choy, carrots, fried tofu, and veggie gravy. Lastly, don’t miss the Lemon Grass Tofu with Garlic. This hidden menu item is a fantastic alternative to chicken lemon grass wings. The tofu is fried with garlic powder, lemon grass, and garlic, then tossed in veggie butter, and served with a lemon salt and pepper sauce. It’s an absolute must-have!
