A simple order of bread as a starter took 20 minutes to be delivered. We will not be dining here again. Not worth the almost $400 we depend on our dinner.
A birthday celebration brought us back to one of my favorite restaurants on Maui. ATMOSPHERE: Because we were a large party of 22, we got use of the private room towards the back of the restaurant. While the views aren't bad, it's not as pretty as the main restaurant. The super high ceilings trapped in a lot of hot air regardless of the spinning ceiling fans and sliding doors being partially open, so it was fairly toasty inside. Plus, there's no a/c. The carpet looked worn and tired, akin to what you'd find in a hotel ballroom. A yellow garden hose used to water the indoor plants snaked itself along the wall and wasn't even put away. More horrors included ugly artificial tree stumps being chocked by curled, slinky-looking vines that stood erect all over the place. Sheesh. I usually list menu prices but being that this was a party, we didn't pay a cent. BEVERAGE: Moscow Mule While the flavors were spot-on, the drink's effervescent ingredients tickled my throat at the beginning of the drink and subsided halfway down. So odd. House Cured Smoked Salmon, 6 pcs. Salmon cut and arranged like rosebuds topped small potato crepes that looked like tiny pancakes. Very good flavor combo from the salty fish and creamy crepe batter. Black Blue Ahi The fish's room temperature presentation was very odd on the palate. The included guacamole spread did nothing to bring this dish to life. Greek Maui Wowie This would've been a homerun dish had it been served cold. Instead, it was served at room temperature just like the ahi app. Gross! On the bright side the dressing was good with plenty of shrimp and tomatoes but it needed more romaine. Scallop Pork Adobo The three pieces of scallop were of average size and could've been seared better to bring out flavors and texture. The risotto was nice and creamy, the pork belly so small you'd miss it if you blinked. I tasted zero adobo flavor. Prime New York Steak My spouse's dish that came out perfectly medium-rare. Thick, tender and juicy, a savory pool of dark brown gravy lined the plate with dull, lifeless fingerling potatoes to the side. Fingerling is the equivalent to watching paint dry. Give us mashed or baked potatoes please! DESSERT: Strawberries Panzini Your standard flambéed dessert. Individual plates with cream, chocolate sauce and brown sugar came with for dipping. The strawberries were nice and sweet. SERVICE: Excellent. No less than three gentlemen took great care of the room. Drinks were never empty and we were treated to ice cold almond-scented towels before dinner. Nice touch! OVERALL: Even though we had some lackluster dishes, Nick's is still a 4-star in my book as I have a few favorites that I wasn't able to order due to a preset menu.
We spent our 18th year anniversary at Nick's, and it was excellent, great service, beautiful atmosphere and the food was perfect. I highly recommend you eat at Nick's Fishmarket.
Food, service, views, and overall ambiance were awesome. Highly recommend
AMAZING...... food was excellent. We got the octopus and beet salad and then the salmon and abalone and ended with Panna cotta.
