I came here because one of my relatives had sneaked up this place, and boy, I'm glad I did that! I came there a little after lunch, but waiting wasn't terrible. I ordered a dinner and was impressed by the various dishes offered. Most of them were pretty good (the pork and eggplants however swim in oil) and it was much cheaper than I expected it to be. The store is very cool and offers a wide range of different articles for seemingly reasonable prices. I came here on my last day on the island, but I have no doubt that I will return to TJ once I return to Maui.
This is a small grocery store with diverse inventory. They have a small aisle of Japanese imported snack/pantry items, corridor of restaurant supplies, only place with preserved plums without food coloring. There is a small area with Bengos and other prepared items ready for exit. Do you need freshly cooked rice? They did. Understood. Chicken Bento? Something fruit, Vegi and Tofu? A mochi? Choose from the entrance hall or locally in the boiled dining room. Especially if you need a Natto-Fix, this is the only place to get it on Maui. People are friendly here. Place is small but they have covered the basics, so breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, this place will have what you need.
Large Japanese market, especially for a small island. Very nice selection of staples and canned and freshly made Bento. But not a wide range of products. Fresh poké, deli counter and paper products. Helpful, friendly staff. Lots of parking, just a bit out of the way.
I love all the ethnic food this store brings in. The bentos can’t be beat!
