I always go here for my curry when I'm in Wakefield (several times a year, for many years) as it's always been the best I rave about it to many ppl saying it's the best. However my recent visit yesterday I had a lamb balti, which I've had many times this time the quality of the lamb wasn't as good. It was still tender cuts but it had more fat, which spoilt it a bit for me. It was also more bland, with not as many flavours coming through. I still love this place will go back hope this was a 1 off.
We love visiting Abduls so much so we travel a 20mile round trip for one. Lovely, tasty food, service is always quick. Although our only bug bare is that a label isn’t added to at least one of our curries especially when they look similar. One of us always has mild and the other slightly hotter (doesn’t always have a chilli in) would be terrible if we mix them up. Not a huge issue as we double check before leaving but sometimes the servers don’t know which is which especially when there’s no chilli. Wouldn’t stop us visiting but just have to be mindful.
After reading the reviews, my expectations were high for Abdul's. The premises were spotlessly clean and well-organized, the service was friendly, and the mango lassi was good. However, the mixed kebab was average and not what I would typically expect from Indian cuisine. The chicken jalfrezi and lamb dansak had the same sauce, with the chicken dish topped with a whole green chili and the lamb dish including chopped pineapple. Unfortunately, both dishes lacked flavor and authenticity in terms of ingredients and spices. The so-called pilau rice was not made with basmati rice and had an unappetizing yellow color. I ended up throwing away the leftovers because I couldn't bear to eat them again. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Abdul's.
What a shame! We’ve been visiting Abduls over 20 years! The curries were watery tasteless the last time we went! We are gutted! Please go back to how you were before! We paid more travelled for your food because you gave beautifully cooked food! Please do not skimp on cost!!
