Already a bit dubious about visiting due to their recent 1 Star food hygiene rating so for a bumpy start didn 't help settle our doubts but we like to give people chances and as we had seen on FB that there had been some misunderstanding regarding the food hygiene rating we thought what the heck! Mummy checked online and Facebook to see if there was a need to book and couldn 't see anything so we took the short walk round and entered The Magnet. Like many places we had no idea if it was bar service or table service but as there was no signs at the door and we noticed table numbers we assumed it was table service. Daddy grabbed Heinz a high chair and as we placed it at the table we were abruptly stopped by a shortish lady with blondish hair and glasses (looked at reviews when got home and saw this is the landlady Anita asking if we had booked... We looked around at the 5 tables presently in the place before answering with a shocked No . We were then told to wait and she would see if it 's possible for us to sit because they have lots of large bookings etc... We will see if they show later.... Either way she came back and granted permission to sit. Neither of us was sure we wanted to stay but figured we didn 't have a choice really as we had already made the walk and couldn 't be bothered to go elsewhere. So feeling a little bit uncomfortable we took our seats. Mummy went to the bar to order as instructed by the lady who apprehended us and gave us permission to sit. When mummy sat back down a family sat at the side of us and within seconds someone was there taking their order.... Looks like we had annoyed someone for sure.... It was during the waiter taking their order we realised we could have chosen two meats had we have known... Guess we will suffer with the boot leather looking beef all on its own. It did make us wonder why the table at the side of us weren 't asked if they had booked (maybe they did at the bar but if they had booked why were they allowed the sit at a dirty table that wasn 't set? Okay I take back the boot leather remark, although looking quite unappealing and dry it didn 't taste that bad. In fact most of the food was cooked quite well, except the roasties where I had one that was burnt and one that wasn 't cooked. The biggest issues was that it was all cold, barely any heat at all in anything. Thankfully the gravy had some heat to it so we could pour that on to get some warmth in there. The no temperature suited Heinz perfectly as he could just dive straight in and although he can 't talk yet didn 't make any whinging or whining to show he wasn 't impressed with the food. Or maybe its because he knows that under 18 months get a free veg bowl (Mash and Veg so knew he shouldn 't moan about a free meal? Lol. In all honesty I would have said something about the cold food but nobody came to ask (oh wait WE have to go to the bar and im not sure what they could do about it other than stick it in the microwave (No thanks as I 'm sure it 's all in a hot (cold? hold waiting to be served. So other than the one table that sat at the side of us not another single table came in during our meal... So confusing... And what a way to make someone feel un welcome. If we annoyed you because we sat before coming to the bar, let us know the procedure, realise we have a 1 year old that we have to get settled, do anything other than make us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. When finished a talking youngish lass came to clear the plates and actually treat us like customers for the first time since coming in and made conversation with Heinz, a small small redeeming moment but not enough at this point. Unfortunately we weren 't asked about desserts or anything like that. There are plenty of places offering the same as The Magnet... I suggest to the owner and the team to treat those who choose to dine there like you actually want them there. For us, we were made to feel unwelcome, unwanted and felt like we recieved nowhere near the same level of hospitality than those around us. Will we be back? Unsure.... 1 Star Food Hygiene rating, cold food and the whole experience we had with how we were treated... We can 't see anything that would encourage us back at this time.
Very disappointed with my visit. Staff extremely rude felt unwelcome as soon as you step foot in the pub. Wouldn’t recommend
The parking situation has put me off returning. Expect a parking ticket if you forget. Not good for a local pib
Amazing food. Loads of it. Great prices. Lovely friendly staff. Cant recommend enough. It was super.
Called into the magnet on the way to wheldon rd for cas's last home game. I've travelled from bridlington so was in need of nourishment. The menu is traditional so everything will be familiar to people. The food was v. nice and the coors and carling pints were top motch.
