My partner and I were looking forward to visiting the Alma for a Sunday roast following seeing positive reviews on Tik Tok. I can honestly say this was one of the worst Sunday roast experiences I’ve had. Despite having a table pre-booked the service was utterly shocking. We had to wait 90 minutes for our roast. The first time we enquired they brought it out quickly but it was completely cold so we had to send it back. The second time the food was sub standard. The pork was completely dry and the beef had been cut razor thin and was over cooked. But it wasn’t just the food, we had to ask several times for drinks despite seeing them stacked up at the bar. We also had to ask for the bill several times. The waiting staff were so disorganised and could regularly be seen gossiping with one another which was frustrating to watch when customers were waiting for any kind of service. There seemed to be plenty of staff so I can only assume that this was the fault of disfunctional service. I won’t be going back.
One of my favourite pubs in London. This pub has always had an amazing atmosphere, with traditional wood panelling and beautiful etched glass interior. The food offering recently has been incredible. We had the Chilli honey glazed short rib with truffled hash browns and it has to be my dish of 2024 so far. The meat was so tender and just fell off the bone. The hash brown was crispy on the outside, soft fluffy and truffley on the inside. So delicious! I could happily eat this every day!
We chose here as it had really good reviews. We were a party of 10 so we had to preorder which was fine. We wait a good 30 minutes for our table upstairs and eventually just went up. They didn’t tell us when it was ready. We then waited about 50 minutes for our food to start arriving only I be very disappointed. The roast chicken was partly wrapped in bacon. That wasn’t on the menu and none of us eat pork. They took it away and had just swapped the one piece out. The same overdone Yorkshire pudding and burnt roast potatoes were returned. 2 of the party ordered sea bream and was given plaice, which contained some of the fish gut (seriously unappetising just to see) an our side order of cauliflower cheese had been forgotten altogether. They brought it out so late we’d practically finished everything else. Could not taste any cheese…. Deserts were also terribly disappointing. I ordered the apple and blackberry crumble which was very bitter with barely any crumble. The service was so slow I’m not sure if it was lunch or dinner. The one good thing they did was remove the fish dishes and cauliflower. We will not be returning. Not sure who wrote the excellent reviews but they were on the opposite scale of our experience
Visited here for a Sunday roast following good reviews/coverage on social media but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. We were a group of 6 with a booking and we all arrived promptly. Took a while for the staff to take our order and then it was approximately an hour for the food to arrive (no starters, just mains). Other tables seated after us received their food before us. After finishing our food we were told they need the table back and we'd have to leave so no opportunity for dessert.
