The Cheese Board that followed was the best I have had in a long time - not stone cold, thankfully. My husband ordered the Chocolate Brownie, which he said was delicious. I usually only have two glasses of wine, but the Pinot was so good that I couldn't resist a third. The young man who served us was attentive and friendly.
It was my husband's birthday, so we decided to have lunch at this restaurant. He ordered the Bravette steak, while I chose the Spicy Salmon. Unfortunately, my husband's steak was not rested after cooking, causing all the juices to run out into his fries. Additionally, his slow-cooked tomato was missing. The spices on my salmon were burnt to a crisp, so I sent it back. While waiting for a replacement meal, I went to the bar to get a drink. I overheard one of the staff members saying that she hadn't had a break since starting her shift. Eventually, the waitress informed me that my meal would be ready soon and even offered me a free glass of wine for the inconvenience. However, when my food arrived, it was overcooked. By this time, my husband had almost finished his meal. There were other customers waiting for condiments and clean cutlery, with some becoming agitated as their food cooled. Due to a shortage of staff, the queues grew longer, and many customers left in frustration. Overall, our experience was disappointing, and we do not plan on returning to this restaurant.
I came to the restaurant last Sunday at 4pm excited for the carvery, which is usually excellent. When I arrived, the restaurant was quiet. Unfortunately, there was no carvery available, so we decided to try the plated roast instead. This was a mistake – the portions were tiny, the roast potatoes were extremely hard, the Yorkshire puddings were the smallest I've ever seen and didn't seem homemade, and the meat was fatty. I could continue, but I will only return for the carvery in the future, not for any other reason.
Having visited two weeks previously for a Carvery which was “reasonable” quality we returned this Sunday to try again. Which was our worst decision! The beef was too tough to cut let alone chew and the turkey was soft and rubbery with no flavour, Yorkshire’s had obviously been sitting around and were rock hard, the roast potatoes where oily but hard on the outside (not crispy from freshly cooked) probably from sitting for too long also. The vegetables were well undercooked and tasteless. We had a table of three and everyone of us had the same opinion and left 3/4 of a plate! We didn’t complain at the time but we really should have after spending almost £50 I feel disappointed and we will never return!
The staff were a little bemused as the restaurant is not called Morton's any more, anyway the food was excellent, the staff attentive and ambience perfect. Well recommended.
