Contribuisci feedbackI went to the diner around 10:40 p.m. yesterday. I experienced some really bad service. The waiter kept telling me and my friends that they were cleaning up for the next shift and we said okay we can wait the 20 minutes for the shift change. They then proceeded to act as if we were rushing them or making them feel uncomfortable. We were not given silverware or straws. I had to get up and ask for them and when I did the waitress told me not to talk because she was counting her drawer. I stood there for about another three minutes until the dishwasher came out and gave me the straws and silverware. I ordered a orange float which was halfway melted when I got it. A lady came in with her husband and continued to ask me and my friends if we wanted to buy weed. I kept telling her no but she persisted on asking me. Then another lady comes in and sits next to us and she begins to have a drug induced seizure. We get up and tell the staff what's going on but they did nothing. She took out a aerosol can and started huffing it. She then start shaking and foaming at the month. The staff still did nothing. The staff didn't acknowledge her until she passed out for about a minute. It took for another customer to say something for them to notice. The staff were being very rude to each other and making inappropriate gestures in front of me and other customers. I usually don't write reviews for places I think are bad, but people have to know what I experienced at this establishment. That was most likely my first and last time at Mickey's. Please be safe fellow Yelpers. P.S. the food was actually pretty bad. They gave us cold fries that tasted like paper. They need a big change over at that place.
Racists. I went there for lunch with a friend once. Pre-pandemic. I didn 't end up eating the food I was served. Here 's why. My friend and I had been working on a fire damaged home. I am a bearded white male. I was somewhat dirty from working on a burnt home. Before they would take my order, I was repeatedly questioned about 'where I 'm from '. I said Minneapolis. They said No! Like what country are you from man! Jesus! This was said with a loud voice. Like maybe I didn 't understand english.........anyway it kept on like this for some time before they would take my order. You get the idea.
After almost 5 years of living in the Cities, I finally got around to trying out Mickey's Diner and I have to say that it will probably be my last. It's my best guess that the regulars and nostalgia keep this place going. The size of the interior didn't throw me--I expected small--but the garbage all over the floor sure did. So. Much. Trash. It made it hard to enjoy eating when it just felt gross in there--but eat we did. I got America's Favorite All-Day Meal with scrambled eggs, bacon, wheat toast, and hashbrowns. I also got a chocolate shake because that's clearly what you get to go with breakfast. The food was good--nothing spectacular, the service was good, but the lack of sanitation going on in that dining car will deter me from going back.
I always get their Denver omelette with O'Brien potatoes, and let me tell you, the omelettes at Mickey's are enormous—enough for at least two meals. They're also wonderfully fluffy and light. I've had my fair share of omelettes, but Mickey's serves some of the biggest and fluffiest ones I've ever tasted. The O’Brien potatoes made with real potatoes are another favorite of mine. Each meal is accompanied by toast, making it quite a hearty breakfast. Mickey's is undoubtedly a St. Paul institution, and there's something special about dining in a diner with so much history. They are open 24 hours, so I really need to make it back for lunch or dinner sometime. But for now, I'm perfectly content with their fantastic breakfast!
