Old, smelly, dirty dump with horrible food. It looks like the place is closed for renovations as of 04/16. Perhaps demolition? Painted on the side of the place, you will see Great Food, Cold Beer . Maybe old beer. Skip this place and head to the Crest Tavern.
Well to start off, this was out last night of our vacation so my husband said lets eat a nice meal out! He suggested the Bayview since we tried it last time in Wildwood and enjoyed it. I asked the waitress if I could get a smaller NY Strip steak (being a woman I didn't want the 12 oz my husband ordered) and she said she would ask. She came back and said they can make you a 8oz NY strip because we have one on the menu but it comes with crab cakes, and since I didn't want the crab she said she would charge me the price of a rib eye which was 13.99 in comparison to the 24.99 for the 12 oz strip. Our food came and what a disappointment to start off because they brought me the ribeye instead, which by the way was a thin piece of fat. I told the waitress this is not what we discussed, she apologized and said they would make me a strip. 30 minutes later, my husband and daughter were done eating by now and no food was brought to me. The waitress came back once and said it will be right out but that never happened. Finally when she realized they were done eating and I still did not get my dinner she went to check on it. When she came back she informed me that they could not deliver on their promise of an 8 oz strip, no real explanation as to why and apologized. Great, but now my family is done and I haven't even eaten yet. She asked if I wanted something else to eat but at this point 45 minutes or more later I was just annoyed and didn't want to make my family wait for them to cook a new meal altogether so we left. Anywhere here up North where we live any restaurant would never have let this happen and if there was an issue would have completely handled the situation with some compensation. I am very disappointed in this service of the Bayview and will not return again and will pass on to family and friends also to not entertain here.
How this place stays in business astounds me. Apparently the bathroom doors had been closed for awhile before our arrival because we did not notice a smell when we arrived. However, later when taking my children to the restroom, we entered the lobby and were assaulted by the smell of urine. The smell was emanating from the restrooms. The restrooms smelled horrible and were dirty. As anyone with any knowledge of the restaurant business will tell you. If an establishment has dirty restrooms, chances are, the kitchen is dirty too. We were seated promptly, and soon after our server came to the table. She was a very courteous young lady and performed the functions of her job adequately. The food? Abysmal, the chefs clearly have no idea how to prepare a tomato and basil bruschetta. it was horrible. I should have know the food would be bad when the plates were set down and the garnish was straight out of an 1980 's diner. The cheese sticks were clearly of low end quality, as someone who has run restaurants before, you can order different qualities of frozen foods from a vendor, and The Bayview is definitely watching its budget. My wife had the portabello sandwich which was dry but edible, my steak was over done, I would have sent it back but seeing as how my meal had already come out after everybody else 's at the table I was not about to wait for them to cook me a new steak. My son ordered the kids pasta, he wouldn 't eat it, my wife tasted it and said it was horrible. the sauce was clearly a generic brand out of a jar/can. While the staff was nice, the food was extremely sub par. I don 't recommend this place to anyone, to those of you who enjoy the place, you clearly have zero clue as to what good food is.
It is a family friendly place but thats about it. The food is sub-par, very little is fresh... not sure why I saw reviews raving about the New England Clam Chowder, I think people need to try some at other places, it was over seasoned, way to thin, and had perhaps 4-5 small morsels of clam in it. The crab cake is a deep fried ball of stuffing with something resembling crab meat in it. My wife had the crab/shrimp melt which was essentially a slop with a massive amount of onions and celery mixed with frozen salad shrimp and some crab meat piled with melted cheese and Old Bay seasoning... My kids had the chicken fingers and loved them, so at least theres that.
